Good point tru - but with regards to toilet paper - it has just been the global recession - the inner roll has been getting bigger and the number of sheets has been decreasing for ages.

Years ago it was standardly 500 sheets per roll here in Aus ......but now sometimes it is as low as 225.

I hate changing the roll - and especially those that throw the used roll on the floor- so have always opted for double rolls- which funny enough were 500 sheets! ( back to the future) - but recently the company I buy from stopped that - did a huge advertising campaign with claims of "longer rolls"- but guess what? These incredibly hyped up rolls contain only 350 sheets. Not surprisingly they are still at a premium price.

I have noticed it with so many things - including canned food, yoghurts, dairy products - almost anything ....and it has been happening ever so slowly over decades. I am not so sure it is the financial situation - they call it Marketing ....I call it greed.

Tru, I have thought about that so many times with so many things! He would be shocked with so many changes and the icecream would be the biggest. He loved icecream but I have not bought it in ages. I was really surprised when I saw the shape & size of the new container. CHERI

It's hard when the places you shared together disappear. There were a couple of places Cliff and I used to go to together for lunch when we could steal away just ther two of us. They have all closed now. It made me sad that I couldn't even go there to reminisce anymore. The recession has been very hard on restaurants.

All I can say is thank God the size of a gallon of milk has not ghanged! You are right about the toilet paper. The cardboard roll inside is bigger. The same thing is true with paper towels. Mike has only been gone a short time, but there are several small businesses that have closed in this area. I have a real estate business; so there are changes there as well. This community thrives in the summer months due to the race track, but after that, things slow down. Even grocery stores have closed here. The ones that are left can charge what they want. This was an interesting topic bringing us back to the reality of what is around us.

I thought it was just me. What I have noticed are the places that have closed down, places we used to frequent. Mike proposed to me at Rise, the bar in the Ritz Carlton in Lower Manhattan. Rise was on the 14th floor and had an outside patio that overlooked the New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. It was truly a magical place on a sunny day--the boat activity on the harbor was so alive. Now it's gone.

There have been other restaurants--the place where we used to eat breakfast, and others. It is sad to see them disappear into oblivion.

The corporate profit margins are all being cut into by the economy. Fewer items making a profit so I guess they have to cut back on volune or quanities of more necessary products. The just can't fly their corporate jets as often and imagine how that hurts, and all the stockholders panicking about their lifestyle changes during this recession. Yes Debbie, I agree greed and no social consciousness. Ugh. Oh that felt good to say usually Rob has to listen to my rants on such subjects now I talk under my breath most of the time. CHANGE, I can't stand seeing it all around me as we as in me. As resilient as I try to be I just wanted the world to stay the way Rob left it. Hug, Donna

Let's face it. The entire world is changing. Quality is becoming a thng of the past.

It's weird, but when things happen like restaurants closing that we used to go to, products not there anymore, or even celebrities that die, and ''Jerry doesn't know'', or rather, I can't share that with him - even the election results - the coal miners, etc. We were so wired into the election, and discussed politics all the time, or world issues - watched Meet the Press - read the editorials - heck even read the comics and commented - (he read them to me - don't know why, I can read!). Now I have to watch my p's and q's with everything opinion wise, and have no one to bounce things off of. It's sort of a reality check , that they are truly gone - the world is spinning without them. Now when I meet people that never knew Jerry, it's so strange. I even tell my dog that he would have LOVED her. It's sort of admitting that they are gone - can't explain it very well. When someone said who IS Tony Curtis?, I had to say Jamie Lee Curtis's father - oy vey, I'm old!!!!

Many resturant we went to are gone in our area. In just the 7 months since Rene' passed there are 7 or 8 new buildings into our area. She would have loved that some of the stores were ones she frequented and now are so close by.
