I found this on my Facebook page this morning and want to share it with all of you here. It might help encourage those of you who are new to this journey of grief and feel hopeless; as well as those of you who are further along the path but still waver in your belief that there IS a future without your beloved spouse. I am nearing my 3rd angel-versary (on Valentine's Day) and can attest to the truth of this message.

Where the tears still flow
Just not as often.

Where memories bring smiles
Not just sadness.

Where blessings are recognized
Not just struggles.

Where joy and peace are present
Not just sorrow.

Where they are remembered
Not just mourned.

Thank you, ohsolost, for posting that. I do smile even now at some of my memories, and feel sad and/or cry at other memories. I had to be my partner's 24/7 caretaker for the 6 months that he was sick and knew it. And I was with him the moment he died. I was so afraid that he might die in the middle of the night while I was asleep, but, thankfully, he didn't. Looking forward to some of that joy and peace referred to in the piece you posted. I know it will come around some day. But not just yet.

So very true Terry. This does indeed happen. Awhile ago, I thought it would be impossible to remember without the stabbing pain, and the unreality of of all. I can now smile at the memories, and embrace the tears when they come. We will never be "over it", as those who are thankfully ignorant might say, but we do recover enough to appreciate the love we were blessed with. This will come to you all, in your own good time. Thanks for posting this Terry.

My dear friend Terry. At 1 year Feb 1st I am beginning to experience more of " another side if grief " Not completely on the other side yet but getting there.
I felt this would never be possible but your message is so true.

So true! You feel like you will never get there, but time does help heal. We have to push ourselves to unknown territories to help overcome our darkest moments.

Terry, this is absolutely lovely. And TRUE!

It took about a year to be able to look at pictures without a meltdown. But now, I can smile easily, remembering all the joys we shared. THAT was the hardest for me.

In the beginning, when people kept telling me I would reach this point, I seriously doubted it. But now, I know it to be true.

Newbies... You WILL get here, Even if it doesn't feel like it.
