I lost my husband of 21 years on april 7th. He woke me and said he needed to go somewhere and was holding his chest then he said no the pain went away. He didn't want to go to the hospital because he was afraid they would admit him.I insisted the we go to the hospital and on the way he went into cardiac arrest in the car. my son pulled him out of the car and I gave him cpr in the street until emt's arrived. He died 7 days later. I am just killing myself with the what if's. What if i had called 911 sooner? what if I didn't do cpr hard enough? I would give anything to go back. I feel like it is all my fault and he wouldnt of let that happen to me. Im not sure if I will ever get past this.
I just needed to type the words.

Today (August 8) is INternational Cat Day. Don't click away! International DOG day is August 26! Both were created to raise aweareness and funds for the well-being of critters. We have many such dayts, to the pint that every day is like an old Catholic saints' day calendar: Take your pick!I'm home, obvs, and still ill. Left calf and foot not great after a tangle-fall, but i'll live. Just can't...

I'nm exhausted. This doxycycline thing has ripped me apart and I'm eating crackers and water. I can't take (anything) or eat (anything) except saltines and toast and maybe unbuttered watery mashed potatoes. Are we sure the cure isn't worse than the possible disease?!?!And a week to go. ***Fun cures that WERE worse than the disease:ARsenic. Popular against STDs, which just compounded misery...

I am so sorry for your loss. But none of it is your fault..
Sadly since the loss of my wife last year, i have done a lot of reading on "cardiac events" which is what she had...you cannot blame yourself for not being able to stop something that often cannot be stopped even when the patient is already in a hospital..
please be gentle with yourself, it is very easy and common to feel like this.
You did nothing wrong
and I'm STILL doing the 'what if's' since my husband passed away due to liver failure on March 19 of this year. What if I had got him to the doctor earlier? What if I had noticed the signs before it was too late?
You did what you could...again, I'm very sorry for your loss...I know how painful it is.
I'm so sorry you lost your husband. And you're certainly not alone in being haunted by those "what if" questions. But, as hard as it is to do, I think it's important to let go of those regrets. We're only human and there's no way we can ever know what might have happened. It will just drive you crazy. But I realize that's easier said than done. So, perhaps you may want to think about talking with a therapist and working through these emotions you're experiencing. Or maybe find a local grief support group? I know GriefShare does ones throughout the U.S. Just a thought. But, in the meantime, you'll definitely be in my prayers, friend. Hang in there...

I had to accept that this was not in my control, or his. Sharon
