I do understand everything you have written about. I do find great comfort in talking to my wife helps. I let her know how I feel each and every day. I always tell her I will be back when I leave the house, that I love her. Before I go to bed I always talk to my wife.

Here, we know exactly how you feel because we are feeling it too. I am going on my 5th year of widowhood now, and am still living all alone and wondering if I have any life left at all. Each morning I arise wondering if this day will be any better than the day before.

I use my husband's handkerchiefs. They all had his initial on them, so they are very comforting.

We had a GREAT, funny picture made of us in one of those photo booths a couple of years before Joe got sick. I enlarged it to an 8 x 10 and keep it on the refrig door. He looks SO happy in it and I talk to him all the time as I pass by. It's been 3 and a half years for me. You ask what things comfort me? Well, not a whole lot, compared to the peace, comfort and security, future dreams I had with Joe. I do things, but it is more functional than anything else. I do my chores, I go to church and am active in its activities. But nights, weekends, opportunities for trips but with no one to go with are so lonely. I recently saw an ad for a cruise at a good price. I'd love to go, but the prices are for double occupancy. Gee, thanks. I understand that the cruise lines have to do this but it sure is discriminatory toward singles. And I don't want to share a room with "just anybody" that is female. I tried that once and it was a disaster. Comfort? Well, the only thing that is as loyal to me as my husband was (and comforting).....you guessed it.....food. Ice cream really comforts me as it is going in and down. So do cake, cookies, fried foods, etc. All the things that rob one of health. So, I haven't found anything that brings me comfort that isn't bad for me. The sparing times I get to spend with my family are comforting but they always end and are too short. Food is so comforting.

You are right...!! We do understand completely because most of us do the same things.... I know I do. When you have lost the love of your life, your other half, your soulmate, you ( all of us) try and hang on to any thread that connects us to them. It's been a little over 7 months for me and I still have his pillow with the pillow case he slept on (although it was only one night) on my bed and I hold tight to it when I sleep. I'm not ready to give it up.

I really wish you hadn't mentioned candy bars...... lol...... I am craving them so much, I am going to run to the store and buy all I can carry......maybe I'll feel better.......lol

I'm glad I'm not the only one thattalks to my spouse still. I keep photos tucked here and there so i can see his face throughout the day.
Weekends are so long. But this weekend I'm glad i dont have to go anywhere.

Comforting to know that most women relate to chocolate. I knew I was not alone there!

my diabetes is dangerously high, I finally got it down some, was trying to stay away from candy bars......so I only ate one Snickers, hid the rest for later.....

Maybe I should not have mentioned chocolate but it does help sometimes.

Talk about comfort food, my good friends opened an Italian Cafe type place shorty before Don got sick. I ate stromboli, calzones, and wings for months. Imagine what that did to my disappearing waist!! On second thoughg, don't imagine it, I'm still working on getting that off. Sharon

The only thing that comforts me lately is ice cream, or actually any sweet or salty item. There's just nothing else left to look forward to.
This is the pits isn't it? A life of chocolate & ice cream.

I know. Much the same thoughts crowd my mind. And questions as well. Was I good enough? You bet your life on me. Was I good enough?

So hard to hang on to the positive thoughts, so cherish keeps you sane too. Cherish those positive moments to carry you through those sad times. I don't how long it will take me to remove my rings, if I ever do, but my husband didn't want to ever take his off even having xrays, so they would tape them. So when they asked if I wanted his ring, I just couldn't do it. There are some days I question if I did the right thing.

The void is so very hard to fill and the missing...We do question ourselves over and over and you know we might not get the always answers were sometimes looking for...

Ok the chocolate, the girls here got me laughing over it...But to tired to go get some...
