I have to say that it has been a very spiritually awakening personal journey. It has not been so much of a "religious" experience, as it has been a journey of self-discovery and mindfulness and meditation is one of the "tools" for achieving that.
A Buddhist monk once told me that "Buddhism is not the answer it is the question." Which I think is the perfect description.

In silence you really find answers. For me having a spiritual experience really helps in the grieving process.

Jeff, I suffer with tinnitus as well. You are so right about the silence that brings on the "noise!" My escape is a fan that makes background noises to hide the bells, whistles, ships pulling into the dock and dishes clanking and breaking [only someone who has tinnitus knows exactly what I'm talking about!]
Buddhism is filling and awakening my soul and spirit.
