This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

I didn't know what to think. Several mos later I arrived at my parents. My father had many health problems after a bypass and stroke and often out of it mentally. Usually he was depressed and looked mad. This day he had a big smile - something I hadn't seen in a long time. He sat there and said over and over "it was so beautiful - I want to go back." My mother said "he's driving me crazy - he says he visited heaven this morning." I asked him what it was like and all he could say was "it was soo beautiful". He died a few months later.
I went to a memorial mass today and the priest delivered the most beautiful sermon about the afterlife and how we needn't worry about our loved ones because they have realized their Utopian Dream. I feel so much better hearing that my husband is in a beautiful place and my grief is more about me missing him and
how much he wants me to let go of the grief because he is with
me in spirit. I cried through the whole mass, but I feel so much
peace and I'm going to work towards letting go of the grief while holding on to the beautiful memories of our life together.
HUGS and thanks for the post

well, I got a phone call at 1 in the morning with my son lauging and crying at the same time and he just kept saying 'mom, it's so beautiful it's so beautiful"....and I said "what are you talking about?" (remember it's one in the morning!)...and he related his story to me...that he prayed "like you pray, mom "....that the gates of heaven be opened...and that's when he saw a man walk toward the gates (which, BTW WERE pearls)....then he saw the man turn around his head and then look back and continue on through the gates.
To this day, I believe that God gave my son that vision to prepare him for his father's death. He never saw a face on this man...and I believe that was God's way to let Justin know how beautiful heaven is and that his dad would be okay.
My niece (who regularly hears from God...she is autistic)....heard God speak to her on the day of Mike's memorial service...she was a bit upset and went to be by herself and asked God why Mike had to die...and she heard Him say "Kelsi, you know that mike is with me now"...then she felt Jesus come and take her in His arms and dance with her!!! Yes, I believe too.
Yay, God.
I went home and in the middle of the night I prayed and relinquished her to the Lord, that was the hardest thing I ever did up to that point. I got a call from the nursing home the next morning and she took a turn for the worse, I was there in 10 minuets she had already passed away. They told me they put her oxygen level up to 4 in the middle of the night. When I go there they told me she wanted to go to bathroom and saw she was going, got her back in bed and she took a couple of breaths and passed away.
When I went to view her body the day before the viewing and funeral The Lord Blessed me. She looked so beautiful, I knew that she was with The Lord. I had so much joy I did not want it to stop. The joy that The Lord gives there are no words to express.
When my husband passed, I took care of him his last week of life for he refused hospice. I got to be with him as he was taking his last three breaths and sang "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" to him.
I miss him so very much! But I know I will see him again as you will see your husband again. Knowing that our loved ones are in heaven helps us to keep going on here. The last day he was alive, he looked up at the ceiling as if he was looking at someone and kept staring up, I believe The Lord was there or His angels. Home did not speak for his last 2 days, just moaned when he was being moved when he was being washed and moved and changed.
Blessings,

My aunt died a few months ago and she had "passed" a few months before that. She said that she saw her husband, her daughter and her sister. She said it was very lovely and that she did not want to come back. She fought it but the nurse kept yelling at her "Barbara come back, come back" and she came back. She was pissed. She made us all promise that we would let her go if she got her chance again. On the day she died, she simply took her oxygen hose off, fell asleep and left.
