It has been six months since my husband passed away. The holidays began weighing on my heart several weeks ago but this weekend it hit hard. On Friday night I went to Costco to pick up some office supplies and they are decked out with Christmas decorations. I have always been a big fan of Christmas. I love Christmas music, Christmas decorations (17 boxes for my house) and baking, cooking etc. This year my heart breaks with even the thought of Christmas. For the past 32 years I have celebrated Christmas with Carl. We started dating at 16 and married at 17. I cant imagine how I am going to make it through the next several months. I stayed in my house all weekend long after the Friday night event because I could not handle going into another store. Every commercial shows how happy everyone is during the holidays. Last year I was that person. Still trying to figure out how in the world I got here. Overwhelmed is an understatement. The love of my life is gone and I am expected to carry on.
Just wondering how others made it through this time.

MrsLfrom TX, please don't feel like you must do things because somebody says so or you think you "should". I had friend tell me "don't should on yourself". I love that phrase and think of it often when I am about to say "I should do this". Hope it helps you too. Hugs from AZ

It's also 6 mons. after thirty plus years together, for me it was a sudden loss, no warning. I know I will have moments of sadness during the holiday season but I hope to be able to remember the "reason for the season" & find some peace & joy. I'd like to think our loved ones will also be celebrating, Christmas in heaven must be wonderful!

Oh I know how you feel about the Holidays. It has just been 5 mos since I lost my husband of just shy of 37 yrs. I don't plan on celebrating anything. I will give my grandkids & family presents but thats about it. I will not play holiday music or put up decorations... I just want it all to go by quick. I plan on sleeping through the Happy New Year too. We always spent it together & I think to myself that little did I know last New Years Eve would be our last on this Earth. This has truly been the worst year of my life.

Michael died right before Christmas last year so I'm not really ready for all the holiday hoopla...not yet. I think I'll make sure my Granddaughter get her presents and leave all the celebrating to other folks. I always loved Christmas..it's always been my favorite. So I'm hoping I can join in next year & feel some of the holiday spirit.

I lost my love on May 29 and closing in on 6 months. I am also dreading the holidays - it already started with the Thanksgiving invites! People can't understand why I won't just come. I already know I don't want to have anything to do with the holidays. Maybe next year - I guess we all just have to find our own way through this - we'll all just need to hold on tight to each other until January! Here's hoping we all find the right path to get us through this. Hugs to all.
