I was told it would be a few weeks but it turned into a few months. I was told there some muxup at the hospital. Not getting the right signatures and so on.

It took about a month. I don't know if this varies across the world.

Doctors often procrastinate signing them. It does take a while and everyone seems to need one.

I'm only 2 weeks out so I can't say whether that sounds too long for the death certificate. i think it does but will leave that to the members that have been here longer than me. However, I wanted to say that I understand your need to read the autopsy report. I know that knowing why won't bring him back but I want to know what happened. Maybe it will give me some peace from the "what if's" that keep going through my head.

I had the certificate in about a month, so 104 days seems way to long when you need it to handle so many things. The doctors wanted to take some samples after my wife died as she died suddenly from a very rare immune system disease. I declined. As far as the autopsy, maybe someone else like your family doctor could look it over and explain to you its conclusions. Im not sure how graphic they get so I wouldnt want to see you over whelmed by it.

I got my death certificates the day of the funeral, 5 days after my husband died. The funeral director gave them to me. There was no autopsy because he had pancreatic cancer.

If there is no autopsy then what Rosepa said should be the norm. Certainly within the week.

I responded earlier but just got a call that my husband's death certificates are at the funeral home for me to pick up. It took about 2 weeks.

The time frame for autopsy results can vary due to the cause of death and other things. Most county's don't have a large staff of doctors in that field and that also means a longer period. Try to think of it as them being thorough to rule out all possibilities. Sharon

I received my husband's death certificates 4 days after his death, from the funeral director. There was no autopsy involved - his death was from natural causes, a heart attack. I started changing names on accounts a few weeks later and some of the accounts required a copy of the death certificate. Have you been able to change names on documents? The amount of time that has passed seems too long. You should find out what's going on.

He was 34 and died suddenly so because of the circumstances they did perform an autopsy. I think I failed to mention this earlier but he was also on medication, so toxicology was also . The results from the autopsy were that he had an enlarged heart and his right (I think ) artery was completely blocked. The medical examiner said he probably had a heart condition he never knew about. So I suppose it could be taking a while because of that. There has been a lot of talk about if he was being over prescribed, so I guess they are trying to figure out if that is what caused it or not. We only had one joint account, so it's just sitting there until I can get the certificate. But we can't sell his truck or anything like that until we have it.

I found out my husband died overseas through a phone call from the company vendor. They had to transport his body from one city to another major city where the US consulate issued a death report same as a death certificate, 20 copies come home with his remains. It took almost 4 weeks for him to be home. I waived the autopsy to bring him home as quickly as possible, afraid that they will mishandle his body or worst yet to lose him. They had to embalmed him so autopsy when the body returned home is futile. It is still a mystery why he died.

My husband Cliff died of a heart attack, and because his doctor would not sign off the death certificate (he hadn't seen his doctor in 14 months), a limited autopsy was done. I had the death certificates the same day we buried him, 5 days after his death.

Does the medical examiner know they should be in contact with you rather than your brother-in-law? And is it the county medical examiner (coroner) who did the autopsy? They shouldn't be hanging onto everything this long. I don't mean to alarm you, but something is not right here.

About a month here. I agree 104 days is too long with all the things you need it for. The funeral directors here in Florida file for them. I was amazed at what all was connected at the state. They took her off the property records and even notified the Supvr of elections to cancel her voter registration. No autopsy for her either because of her passing as a result to breast cancer.

It seems like a very long time for the death certificate. I got my husbands from the funeral director within a week. I agree with some of the others. There are legal matters to handle etc. Even though we are at our worst possible place mentally; we all have legal or other things to handle. For me as difficult as it was to have to do all the legal duties; I knew they had to be taken care of. I have cried a ton of tears but at least most of my legal issues have been taken care of. Now I can try to take care of me and not have those things still to face. God Bless. Chipstears
