I had this exact experience with the passing of my Tom on 02/28/17. It was heartbreaking as much as I wanted to sit at his bedside every minute I couldn't. I feel your pain, and wish you and your beloved peace. We are here for you. I can only tell you that it was a gift to be with my husband when he passed, holding his hand, telling him that it was okay and that I loved him so much. Kiss her endlessly and hold her hand.

I am so sorry that you are. Having to go through all of this. Life is definitely not fair.! I hope and pray for you and your wife both that she is in no pain.

My husband died, immediately from an accident, but my Mom lingered for a week. I am praying that the Lord will give you strength. I am sorry you are alone which makes things worse in some ways. No, it isn't fair. We hate not being in control. We hate not being able to take their place. I hope the wait will soon be over.

My husband Tom was at home in hospice for 2 weeks and passed away In our bed. It is the hardest thing ever to want your loved ones suffering to end, but to not want them to go. I sat at his bedside for hours and would talk away or hold his hand telling him not to be afraid, and how much I loved him. It's not fair. It hurts so bad for the both of you. My prayer for you and her is peace.

Eddie feel for you I whent through the same thing with my beloved ed we spoke for hours before ed passed at least I had that with ed still didn't make it easier ed told me to go on she would be watching we all just sat there day after day talking to ed (mum) ward was so understanding anytime day or night just stay with your wife

My wife passed yesterday at 11:35 a.m. I am simply heartbroken. It hurts so bad to sit in this house alone. I find myself questioning if I should be doing the most basic things (watching TV, reading news on the internet). Heidi would kick my tail if she knew I was acting like this, but everything hurts so bad. These next few days are going to be so hard.

Any advice for the wake/funeral?

Hey Eddie....can't say I know what your going through...put perhaps I can.....my wife went into cardiac arrest July 8th....they got a heartbeat back soon there after. However she had no brain activity. Had her on a respirator for 5 days after. Held her hand talked to her for 5 days. Knew it was over. What else was I to do? I knew I was a widower before she died. I'M VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS!! Life sucks!! Puts shit in front of us we should never see. What are we to do?....Carry on...that's what they would have wanted. CARRY ON!!

Eddie, it sounds like you were a devoted and loving husband, true to the marital vows which bind us to our spouses in sickness and in health. You were with her throughout that transition from this life into the next. Even though you've had anticipatory grief, I believe that there is no way to really prepare for the days ahead. All I know is that we are not wired to do it alone. I'm hoping you'll have support and love all around you--don't be afraid to ask for help. People want to feel helpful but often don't know what to do.

Hi Eddie, I am so sorry for you wife suffering from cancer, and especially you too. You are especially scared. Just try to be strong for her, and stay by her side as much as you can bear, even if you have to go out of the room and scream or cry. And yes, playing music for her, she will hear it even if she is not awake. Talk to her, and always remember the words you say to her, she hears you. I played music for my husband, John, the whole 3 months he was in the hospital, nursing home and hospice. Our music is still comforting to this day, even though it took me two years to listen to our songs again. You can never be prepared for the death of a loved one, the final moment is so traumatic and shocking. And especially, like me, it will take quite a while to ease out of the shock and trauma of witnessing, and having no control over keeping our loved one alive. It's out of our hands. I tried so hard, it almost killed me emotionally and physically, but I could not save John's life. The brutal truth is my friend, is we have to let our loved ones go, because it's time for them to go. But please remember that her physical body will be released from pain and her spirit will be released to joy, love and happiness in a different realm of reality. I know this because I was at my husband's side when he took his last breath, I went into shock, but then a couple of hours later a final peace came over me. I believe, I know it was and still is his spirit with me always. And your wife's spirit will be with you always, giving you comfort knowing that her spiritual being is there with you, and give you comfort, love and caring. Take care my friend, and just know that this is just the beginning of your journey of grief. We are all here for you, so absolutely, with kindness, caring, understanding. The only way I have survived this ordeal is to get physical, do yoga, meditation, bodybuilding at the gym, lifting weights, getting the embedded pain out of my body. You will eventually discover your system of emotional and physical survival that is best for you. Come back often to talk to us, especially we who have been through this shock and trauma. It's not gonna be easy and even tho you have been preparing for this for a while it is quite different when they are really gone. But know there are others we no what your feeling and understand there are no words that will ever make you feel better but we can offer a shoulder and a hug or Anwar to listen when you need to vent.

Eddie....I had the same experience...my husband had pancreatic cancer...he couldnt eat or drink for months so i saw him waste away daily...its rough.. He just died Dec 3 2016...so its been 4 months of grieving constantly..when u see someone u love go thru that process its harder on you...all I can tell you is uf your a believer in God just keep praying without ceasing because I do...God bless and hopefully later down the road we can eventually get over the grieving process.

Jay fought pneumonia for several weeks before I lost him march 30th. Not knowing what the outcome wad going to be I talked to him..held his hand kissed him, joked with him, read to him, played his favorite songs and sung along so he could hear I was there...told him everything was ok and I was taking care of things.

I worked closely with a lady dying of cancer...she would tell me all she wanted to make sure of was that her loved ones were going to be ok. I know that was my husbands wish as well.

Hope that helps a little...yes I took as many breaks from that room as I could...you do need that. My heart goes out to you.
