When my husband went to live with the Lord my two kids wanted to do something special for their father. They both wanted to honor their fathers life by sharing with everyone how it felt having Jose as their father.
My 9 year old son said his fathers obituary at church. He took the time and wrote something wonderful for his dad. And this is what he wrote and shared with everyone..
"Good morning everyone we are here to honor my father Jose Cuevas life on this special day. You see this man that lies in front of us is the greatest father, husband, son, brother and friend you will every know in this world. My father was a true inspiration not only for us but for all those who knew him. Everyone who new him new how much he loved his wife Sandra and his two kids Yulissa and myself Izaak. He wasn't selfish he put everyone dream, feeling and wants before his. He always asked others what they wanted before doing what he wanted to do. He worked long hours to give his family good things. But he also gave his family the most important thing that his long working hours will never buy for us, his love. He loved us so much that I'm sure he must of given his life for us. He died doing what he loved, his job. Where he help many people and many people depended on his work. He was the greatest daddy ever. He was our best friend. My sister and I will always remember him, not by what he gave us but who he helped us to be. We learned to be honest, brave, kind, faithful, love each other and forgive those who treat us wrong. His advise will live inside of us forever. We will no longer see his body but he will be with us. His love will help us in life. As you all know that my daddy left this world on his 39th birthday, My sister and I didn't have a chance to tell him happy birthday or sing to him. Can you all please join me and sing happy birthday to my daddy. But before we start I would like to share a secret with everyone. The day my daddy died, he went to heaven and when he arrived all the angels and God were waiting for him with the biggest party that heaven ever had. My daddy was welcome home that's why God took him on such special day. So don't be sad my daddy will always be with us and he will always be happy. He is in heaven were he will be waiting for my mommy. You see he loved my mother so much. Mommy don't cry my daddy will be waiting for us in heaven. Happy birthday daddy. Can you please stand to sing to my daddy for the last time".
Then my daughter wrote a poem for her father and decided to recite the poem on the grave site. And she wrote...
VISION BLURS, THOUGHTS CROWDED,
SOUND TURNS WHITE, AND LIFE TURNS INTO
A FLASH, RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES. NOTHING SEEMS CLEAR, SO ALL YOU CAN DO IS MAKE A RIVER THAT TRAILS DOWN YOUR FACE. NOTHING SEEMS RIGHT. YOURE SCARED BECAUSE SOMEONE SO LOVED HAS BECOME AN ANGEL. AN ANGEL WITH SUCH BEAUTIFUL WINGS THAT HAS MADE A LIFE LONG JOUNY TO HEAVEN. ALL HIS DAYS HERE ON EARTH HERE WERE WORTH EVEY SECOND. HE LEFT THIS EARTH BECAUSE GOD NEEDED AN ANGEL, SO HES UP IN HEAVEN CARING FOR THOSE HE LOVES SO MUCH. HE CLEANS OUR TEARS WITH HIS HANDS AND PROTECTS US WITH HIS WINGS. HE CAN NEVER LEAVE US BECAUSE HES OUR GARDEN ANGEL. BUT ONE THING IS CERTAIN OUR LOVE FOR HIM IS UNDISCRIBABLE BECAUSE NO WORDS EXIST FOR THIS LOVE HE HAS FOR US ALL. WE ARE NEVER ALONE.
I'm very proud of my kids, this is why I wanted to share with you all a very important moment. My kids have proven to me that kids can at times be stronger than adults and when it's needed they could rise up and make a difference. My kids have been there all the way. They even asked to be part of a decisions in their fathers funeral. They anticipated in every decision; mortuary, casket, flowers, his last attire; cemetery in choosing to witness his burial and in church, choosing the reading and songs. At the end we were happy that everything was done like we always did, as a family....
