Yesterday I got mail on DS from someone named deafgirl. She said she had something important to tell me and wanted my email adderss. I'm a widow, vulnerable, but I'm also an ex-computer person who is very suspicious of anyone attempting to get my email address. I checked her profile. She'd just joined the same day. And had no other information. I suspected a con, probably one of those services that sends junkmail.
I told her that I did not give out my email address. I said it nicely, but I told her that DS has a very good mail system and it will have to be good enough until I trust her. Well, I was right. I got the following scam in my mailbox today. I'll only print a portion of it, but here it is. Widows/ Widowers beware:

THE ECONOMIC CAPITAL OF IVORY COAST BEFORE HE WAS POISONED TO DEATH BY HIS BUSINESS ASSOCIATES, ON ONE OF THEIR OUTING TO DISCUSS ON A BUSINESS DEAL. WHEN MY MOTHER DIED ON THE 5TH OCTOBER 2005. MY FATHER TOOK ME SO SPECIAL BECAUSE I AM MOTHERLESS.
BEFORE THE DEATH OF MY FATHER ON 29TH MARCH 2007 IN A PRIVATE HOSPITAL HERE IN ABIDJAN. HE SECRETLY CALLED ME ON HIS BEDSIDE AND TOLD ME THAT HE HAS A SUM OF US$12.500.000 (TWELVE MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND, UNITED STATES DOLLARS) LEFT IN A LOCAL BANK HERE IN ABIDJAN.
HE ALSO EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS WEALTH THAT HE WAS POISONED BY HIS BUSINESS ASSOCIATES, THAT I SHOULD SEEK FOR A FOREIGN PARTNER IN A COUNTRY OF MY CHOICE WHERE I WILL TRANSFER THIS MONEY AND USE IT FOR INVESTMENT PURPOSE. (SUCH AS REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT).

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!
God has a place for you where you will not need money. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Taking advantage of people who are grieving. Well, send all furthur coorespondence to Hell, your future home if you don't stop what you're doing.
I've warned all others, so I suggest you move on. Take your time and whatever money you've scammed and buy a bible. Then spend time reading it and getting your soul saved before it's too late.

You need to report it to DS - there is a "Report Abuse" button/link on every page. DS doesn't tolerate these kind of scammers.
Again, do not respond to these, report them.
Anyone asking you to respond off the DS site, and asking for your private e-mail are scammers. They need to be reported.

Because there is no way of stopping/filtering people joining DS it will always attract the 411 scammers (I get at least one a day on my normal e-mail and they are on all boards like this all over the net)..plus a few individual con artists.
Unfortunately a few people do fall for these cons. Otherwise they wouldn't keep sending them.
the Nigerian ones seem to be the worst. i got one here from a man telling me how attractive and worth loving I am in my photo...of raindrops,lol...and im a man,lol.
It still angers me that there are people out there hoping to cash in on the worst time in a person's life. But look at it the way they do: we're the perfect victims. We're mostly women without the protection of men. Our family and friends would rather not talk to us because of our grief. And some of us have gotten some money since our spouse passed. Perfect victims in their eyes.
We just all need to be careful and question everything.
