Thought you might like this post I saw online

Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my own familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.

You will believe it with the passing of time and the healing of your heart. It's not a natural progression, you must grieve until you get through the days and even then grieve some more. Finally the day will come that you decide to live with his/her love in your heart and build a future based on the love you share. You will find a way when the time is right. Sharon

Thank you for sharing this post, marysch! As much as I miss my husband and feel the sharp pain of grief, I am lucky to do all of the things mentioned. I hope to always keep Todd's name a household word, and I do feel that we share the happy, funny times. Our youngest granddaughter was over today and said something so funny about her Poppy - just cracked me up and I know it would have tickled Todd no end! Although I sometimes talk out loud to him, this was one of those times I talked to him silently about what a hoot she is - I guess I "shared" the thought with him.

I am lucky that I have these good times to help offset the sad, lonely times because Lord knows, there are many.

I have seen this many times, but never knew who the author was, so I searched, and it turns out it was an Oxford man, the Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral, and he wrote it for the sermon delivered on the death of King Edward VII in 1910. His name was Henry Scott Holland, and here is a link to the Wikipedia article which also has the full version from his sermon:

I always liked the imagery of just being in the next room, something comforting about that.

Thank you so much, Mary, for sharing this. I truly believe what this says--and I think, from our loved ones perspective, the veil is not as limiting. In other words, I think they can perceive our presence much more fully than we can perceive theirs, which I think would make them very content where they are without desiring to "come back" here.
