Since my DH passed 5 years ago now, I have made a host of new friends, indulged in old hobbies, started a eBay business, and often my calendar looks like a train wreck.

It was a very painful journey to get here, but to my surprise I found that I really love living alone. Naturally, I want my husband to still be sharing life with me, but am very proud of what I have been able to accomplish.

The funny part is that there are times when I feel guilty, where I should not be enjoying life solo like I am. Anyone else out as far as I am feel that way? Is this normal?

I LOVE this discussion! There is so much encouragement and joy, offered by so many people who are a little further along the road (and some not quite as far but who look to the future with hope); I can't help but be optimistic that we can all reach a point of equilibrium, if not acceptance.

I want to enjoy the life I have now, and am making progress!

Wow, this thread is just what I needed. Thank you, JerseyGirl for the update. I admire you for living your life and being okay with being alone. It has only been 3 months for me as of next week. I have a long way to go, but I can't imagine that I would want anyone else in my life. After all, my husband was the best and nobody could ever love me the way he did. I am beginning to enjoy being in my own place with just my cat, as well. Your post is so encouraging and makes me think that maybe I can do the same. Thanks. Norma
