His ashes are in the nightstand beside my bed which brings me comfort at night. I may never be able to move forward. We were married for almost 40 years, together 42.
If I am repeating myself I am sorry.....I need to talk about my feelings....and I need someone to understand why I am not smiling, telling them I am having a great day, etc.
I am lost, afraid of everything....just weak.
I have moved from the USA to the UK, and part of that was parting with just about everything. Some things were easy, some things so so hard. I did get some great advice here, and that included taking photos of anything with sentimental value before you sell it or donate it. I did that with his guitars and amplifier, and various other odds and ends. That helped.
As far as ebay, it's a good idea to check the completed auctions to see what similar items are selling for. I didn't know that Cliff's acoustic guitar and his electric amplifier were collectibles. I would have sold them for a lot less had I not found that out. The money came in very handy. I cried my eyes out over those, but there was no one else able to play his guitar, and it didn't make sense to try to keep the amp. Anyway, the completed auctions are a good spot to check if you are going to do ebay.
I have a special tapestry box, my "Cliff box," that has his odds and ends that I kept, for myself and for our boys. It's sitting at my feet as I type this. It has traveled 5,000 miles with me. And it brings me a lot of comfort.
Cliff didn't collect hideous suspenders, but he did collect outrageous sunglasses, and antique cufflinks - he could be very eccentric. I still have his guitar finger picks, his cartoon knick-knacks he always kept on the computer, his in-your-face buttons (my favorite is the one that simply says "Bitch Bitch Bitch"), and the hippie love beads he was wearing the first time I laid eyes on him - and fell in love with him at first sight.
Some stuff has emotional weight, some does not. Take your time and do what is right for you. And don't feel guilty...
Love and Hugs,
Martha
