Sorry to about your husband and this new life journey you are taking. It has been 6 months for me. No! There is nothing wrong with you. Some people just do not know what to say and or do. A lot of them think that you only need them in the beginning. Well as you and I both know that is not true. Be thankful for the one friend and as you feel comfortable call and reach out to the others that have not approached you. They may think that they are bothering you, I have had a few people say that to me. I finally got up the courage to go and ask one of my neighbors to help me with a weed-eater. He had no idea that my husband had even died and to make matters a little more awkward he had no idea how to use a weed-eater.

I am so sorry that you lost your husband. In answer to your question, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. You will see others comment on how friends changed after their spouse's death. I know mine did. I was devastated that one of my closest friends was nowhere to be found a few months after my husband's passing. Within the past year, she has tried to re-connect; but our relationship will never be the same. You are so new to all of this. If you have a bereavement group that meets in your area, give it a try. I know that was a big help to me. Also, I sought out a grief counselor; and he has been a tremendous help. Also, come on this site often. I too have experienced that feeling of being deserted by people in my life. I thank God for the ones who have stuck by me. They have been my angels. I think that people just don't understand what this is like. It's so lonely and just a phone call or invitation to dinner can be so welcoming. Even close family seem to not know what to do. I have found a widows/widowers group that I join occasionally. Bereavement groups may be helpful too. Try calling one person each week so you don't feel like you are a bother. They may see that you are able to engage and suggest getting together. God Bless. Marybeth

Thank you all for your comments. I feel I am not alone. I guess from your comments, people don't know how to approach you, don't want to bother you, etc.... It is hard for me to reach out to people, even in the past. I have since I read the comments and was not to respond; reached out to on of my other girlfriends because I needed driven for a medical test. She was glad to do it, we had a nice conversation, had breakfast afterwards. It really lifted my spirits, and it was nice having her support for the medical test. The problem, I have not been able to find a support group in the Pittsburgh Pa area. I have checked websites and so far have had not luck.

Yeah there is something wrong with you: You are in pain. You hurt. Half of you is gone and you are bleeding, but nobody sees that. They just have absolutely no idea. and they don't want any.
They don't know how to love you. They have a deficiency of experience.
YOU.... you are a soldier. soldiers are supposed to get medals of honor. You didn't join this battle voluntarily, you were drafted. Just being wounded gets a Purple Heart. You should be covered with those.
But someday you will get Medals of Valor for carrying all of their asses through a battlefield, and binding up their wounds, while enduring your own.
So, yeah. That is never a pretty sight.
That is what medals are for. The time will come eventually. If not with these same people, then for others. Even just one. For one hurting person is important, just like you.
Give yourself time.
