Just a rant today.
Last night I was invited for a goodbye dinner by my SIL's parents. I am at present visiting my daughter for a few weeks in Sydney (Australia) and I will be returning home in a few days. During the meal someone mentioned that it was a shame my husband never visited Australia, a benign enough remark but I could not stop my tears, at 11 months I still cry but try not to in public. However, the killer was my SIL's mother took me aside and said to me that I should go and seek help because she added "you should be over it by now, nearly a year on".
Suddenly, I totally lost my composure completely and was a bit sharp. I told her that within a year I lost my husband, my step-brother, my father. 15 months ago, a was a mother, a grand mother (my daughter and her family emigrated to OZ 15 months ago) a wife, a sister, a daughter to my father and now I am just me so if I feel like crying, I will. I think she was a bit mortified but I was pleased I had my say. It is true to say that people who have not been through any of it, just don't get it.

It's sad to think that over the next several years a number of our friends and family will be experiencing this deep a loss. We'll have a place in comforting them. Yes, one cannot totally relate unless they've been through this life-changing event.
