I just had a thought. Some of our group are very hilarious and can come up with some VERY funny thoughts. When someone asks how we are, to diffuse the atmosphere of the moment, what would a funny response be? Laughter always clears the air.

I'll start with one response, not terrifically funny, but at least to get the ball rolling. "I'm good as a hot air balloon with cold air inside. How 'bout you?"

It may not be exactly funny but I have found myself wanting to just say "I'd rather not discuss it but how are you?" Truly, most times I really would just rather not discuss it.

I think people ask to ask, not to know. Nobody wants to hear anything bad but to expect me to have something good to share to make you feel better is selfish. Most days are not so good in all honesty. "Nothing will ever be very good now that I am alone" is something nobody wants to hear.

it would be nice to just be honest with people when they ask... i am sick and tired of having to answer that question knowing the person doesn't really want to know... i've tried being honest ~doesn't work out so well, now i tell people what they want to hear; but a few times i have actually replied: "not good, how are you?" Not one person wanted to delve into the not good part of it... One of the millions of things of learned this past year is when i ask someone how they are is to look them in the eye and truly want to know.

I think for the most, with the exception of here..'How are you?' is just a longer version of Hi or What's happening... just a greeting without really wanting one to go into their day or only wanting to hear a short version...

When I ask here or there, I mean it with sincerity...when I am asked out there...I usually just say, "Hey, alright and you?"

My family as a joke...we say.."what's it to ya.."
