The way she needed me. Does that make sense?

Different things held us together at different times. I think it's probably that way for most couples. My favorite thing about him would change from day to day or year to year or whatever. For instance, I fell in love at first sight - the very first moment I laid eyes on him. 10 years, 2o years, 30 years later - that wasn't what kept us together, so pretty hard for me to narrow it to one thing.

I can tell you one thing I did appreciate from him. He recognized we were intellectual equals, and he never ever talked down to me. We trusted each other's judgment, and we always talked through decisions - from the huge to the mundane everyday stuff. We were like one mind in two bodies.

Don't get me wrong - I still thought he was hella sexy, it's just he had way more than that keeping us together.

He was so loving and dependable. I always knew that he would get up early and have the fire started for me when I got out of bed. He scraped my windshield and made sure the sidewalk was always clean. He kept the garage cleaned for me to park inside in the winter. He liked to bring me drinks or snacks at random, just because. He paid all the bills on time. He treated everyone with respect. He was just so incredibly good.

My husband was so adventurous, with a big heart he always followed. Before we got together, he was a raft guide in Utah and Chile, rock climbed in New Zealand, skied in Japan... then he started dating a 20 year old girl with a 3 year old son, which was an adventure in itself. He always followed his heart. When our daughter was born, there were some complications and I couldn't work for awhile. He got an office job to support us. He's the one who pushed me to go back to school and then pushed us to move to the mountains where I still live. The world was just so much brighter with him.

That he wanted to help anyone who asked, or showed interest in bettering themselves.

Keith's punctuality. If I needed to be picked up at 6pm, he would be there at 5:50pm waiting for me.

Her devotion to myself and the children.

Mas, I've been thinking about this for hours. There were so many traits that endeared Kurt to me and pretty much everyone he met. I chose this one;
Kurt got me. Not Kurt "had me", but that he understood me and accepted me. Kurt let me be myself and flourish through that special kind of love.

You are right, Jaxmate. My love let me be myself too, and vice versa.

You're right, Jaxmate, I also had a love who took me as i am, with all my flaws, and loved me just the same. I think that's the best. And yes, Rain, that makes total sense. Bob put me and the children above all else. He was supportive, He had a sense of humor and could be the life of the party. He had a tender spot in his heart for the homeless. He loved animals. I loved so many things about my husband but the one thing I noticed early on and always remained consistent with him was his ability to talk to anyone at any time as if they were his friend. If it was a politician or a homeless person he encountered on the street, his attitude toward them was the same. He was so real and completely down to earth. Of course those numerous conversations would drive me a little crazy as he could "chew the fat" with anyone all day long. Many a time I would be waiting on him to wrap up a conversation and I'd be waiting and waiting some more. Boy do I miss that!

My husband was always so excited about life. He had so many interests, music, cars, art, antiques, sports, traveling, and people. He too, never met a stranger.
His energy was phenomenal, friends joked about him being like the “Energizer Bunny”. He was also a man of integrity.

Oh, how nice to have a Question of the Day. Your post brought a shit-eatin' grin to my face. Thank you! Hard to give a name to it, but I'll call it the most amazing Gift of Hospitality imaginable. She thrived on being the family's center-hub, and love just poured out of this amazing woman and into every person she met. So many in town were on a first name basis with her, from recovering drug addicts and gang bangers, to everyone she met at the grocery store, customers and workers alike. My husband's most endearing quality was that he would do little sweet things for me every single day. He would bring me coffee in bed. Breakfast in bed quite often as well. He knows I hate the grocery store so he would go..and then he'd buy me my fav things. Sometimes he'd stop at the bakery and buy cake because I love cake. My son's know how much the coffee meant to me. It was like a big I love you every single morning. So they bring me coffee when they are home. It's sweet. If we went for a bike ride he'd check the tires, put a cold water in the bottle holder. If we went xcountry skiing he'd load the ski's and take them out and set them up for me. Just little sweet things that made me feel taken care of. Speaking of..does anyone know how to put air in car tires? He would take care of that for me and I know I've done it but it scares me because how do I know when there's enough air? My "Air is Low" thing keeps popping up and I don't want to explode a tire or something. They don't look low (I did figure out how to put window washer fluid in the car so woo hoo to that- I know it's easy but I don't think I'd ever done it before). SPOILED. That's it.
