waking up in the morning and realizing this nitemare is real.
...morning are worse for me than nites

...the group that dreads weekends and holidays rather than welcoming them as in the past.

I considered myself lucky when I missed the Vietnam draft by one year. It ended the year I was to be drafted. But I tell you now I would rather had done that than this. The most painful thing I remember after all these months is not the morning I came home and found her but the next morning when I woke up and it hit me for the first time my wife had gone. I have tried to describe that feeling to folks who would listen and there just isn't any words in the English language to express it. I can only say I would not wish this on the person in my whole life I disliked the most.

But with God's comfort and being with me the pain is still there but it is dulling somewhat over these months. I know He is and she is with me especially at my lowest times. As He is with us all.

The group that can take a simple joy (like hearing a 2 year old grand child trying to pronounce "yellow") and make it bittersweet by remembering the one not sharing the joy.

Waking up in the morning and remembering you have no reason to get out of bed, but dreading nightfall and going to bed without them.

waking up startled and wondering why till you realize the house is too quite.

...angry at God for not having another 30 years instead of grateful for the 30 years we had, and then feeling guilty and foolish about that on top of sad, as if I didn't already feel bad enough.

...hating my birthdays because I've now had more than he got to have.

We move backwards to move forward...
We look forward to the past instead of the future...
We gave high fives and pat-on-the-backs to basic human functions...
We keep coming back to hear sad stories...
We understood deeply how loud silence is...

OK. That's enough :)

I realize that he lived his entire life with me.
I must live the rest of mine without him.

We speak like prisoners - "How long has it been for you?"

It will be 3 years on April 11th. My family has so many upcoming events; wedding showers, graduations, concerts, birthdays, etc., etc. I'll be kept very busy but none of it will feel the same!

There was so much joy when we'd go to happy occasions together. Now, it takes every bit of courage and energy to go to anything other than what I MUST do!

The hardest time for me is driving. I cry almost everyday. Then I get home to no one.
I'm good at work I stay really busy. But it's the alone time.
