This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

I have been praying for strength to get through these hard times. My dearest husband passed away 8 weeks ago. 8/16/16. We were partners at work and were married 37 yrs. He was not ill. And was always by my side. I found him collasped at work in a pool of blood. I called the EMS and watched so helpless as they took him away. When I arrived at the hospital they gave me two minutes to talk to him and then they wisked him away on a life flight. I never got to say goodbye. He did not wake after hours of surgery. I watched as they pulled the plugs. Nothing to do but hold his hand and cry. I am staying with family now as I can not go back to work with out a partner. I don't think I could go back to work even if I had a partner. Every place I turn I see his face. I keep forgetting and have even called his phone when I had forgotten for just a moment. The hardest part of all this is our children have seemed to move on and our closest friends have done the same. They all think it's time for me to move on and make the hard decission about our home and what I plan to do and where I plan to live. I wish they could understand and have a little patience. All I really want is the pain to lessen and for some peaceful sleep. I will keep praying and hold on to my family for strength. But what do I say when they tell me it's time to move on and get over it? I can only cry and have no words to say.

There is a different kind of trauma that goes with sudden death. Counseling can be very helpful for that. Counseling helped me enormously, and if possible, I would urge to seek it out. It is also another way of shutting up the critics, as it shows you are being proactive in dealing with your loss. Weird but true. I am sorry you have to be here and even have this discussion, but I hope being here helps. Welcome.
