We women were so dependent on our hubbies for so many things. As long as he was with us, everything was going to be OK. Flat tire, no problem. Noise in the night, no problem, somebody looking at us weird in a public place, driving at night, etc. No problem.
Now we are alone and we know the world is a very dangerous place for a woman alone. Since I love camping, and just bought a used camper so I can go on with my favorite hobby, I have thought of things I can do to stay safer.
When I set up my camper (this was way back when I was single before I met Joe), I would always put at least 2 lawn chairs out under the awning. Back in the days when they would let you run a clothes line from one tree to another to dry your wet things, I would hang a very large pair of men's pants on the line. There would be a very big pair of boots by the door. A radio inside the camper or tent, turned low on a talk show would be a good idea, too. Talking out loud to myself would make it appear I was talking to someone inside the camper.
This post is to ask all of you what steps you have taken to better secure your safety since you are alone now? I mean at home, traveling, shopping, anywhere you might more easily be attacked if the attacker thought you were alone.

I do have a funny story. My neighbor has 2 large dogs that stay outside and bark at anything, including me pulling in my driveway or going to the mailbox. They come over and we are very friendly but they still bark at me at those times. One day their alarm system went off while they were at work. I was watching and the police arrived in minutes. The 2 dogs were lying in the front yard sleeping and didn't even raise their heads. The front door was unlocked and the policeman went in leaving the front door open, came out and went all around the house. The dogs never barked or moved. Told my neighbor he must have trained them to recognize the police. Thank goodness it was a false alarm, but we have had several incidents in the area in the recent past. Take care, Sandra
