I just found my husband passport which expires in 2016
Should I notify someone to cancel it???

No, sweetie. Passports don't need to be cancelled.

I would keep it in a very safe place. They are valuable to a thief.
If it doesn't have a special meaning to you, I would destroy it.

You can return it to the State Department with a letter and a copy of the death certificate asking for it to be canceled but also to be returned. They will return it to you if you want to keep it as a keepsake or as part of family records.

There is no legal requirement for it to be canceled. But yes, anything connected with identity can be valuable in the hands of the wrong people. Identity theft of the deceased is on the rise.
