now I'm having trouble sleeping

after Ron passed, I was sleeping better than I had in since I can't remember except when the dog was waking me up. When people asked me how I was sleeping, I was saying I was sleeping better than I had in a long time, but I added it was because I was no longer getting up a few times during the night to check on him. He was having such trouble sleeping due to the meds he was on despite also taking sleeping pills. Anyway, now that my true exhaustion seems to be gone and I'm just plain tired now, I am no longer sleeping. I know this is common to most of us here, but I think I may have to ask the MD for something, it is starting to interfere with my daily activitie. Before I jump to prescription - have any of you found any help with OTC products? Melatonin is not really working any more, although as I type this maybe I'll try a stronger strength. Anyway need to get ready for work. thanks for your advice

Sleep is very individual. I crash any where from 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM. Usually up between 4:00 AM to 6:20 AM. When I was working full time as a computer programmer often went to rack at 10:00 AM and up to work at 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM. I hate to sleep and do all I can not to. Bad for a diabetic but I have never liked to sleep. Sleep aids for me are I go until I crash and then catch a few hours as I can.

Not the best plan but is how I function.

Benadryl worked for me. Good luck. I love to sleep, makes this life go by faster

I have found it hard to sleep sometimes. I go to youtube and find meditation/relaxation sleep music..I find one that lasts for 4 to 8 hours.
The delta ones are nice. I like the ones that don't have the bells or gongs..they only irritate me.. so find a nice one you seem to like, one that relaxes you. You will sleep like a baby!

I discovered that I was often falling asleep while watching TV but then couldn't sleep in my bed. So, I put a TV in my room and it often helps. I seemed to sleep fine all winter and then started having trouble again this summer. I am thinking that I have a magnesium deficiency that gets aggravated because of sweating in the summer since I have digestive issues as well as not sleeping. Need to work more at trying to get more magnesium. Last year eating chocolate really seemed to help!!

Benadryl is an individual thing. It keeps me awake instead of putting me to sleep. I am not a napper as that will ensure I will not sleep at night. If I liked to sleep I suppose that would help the situation. Younger I did just fine with 3 to 4 hours sleep as that was all I had time for. When I went back to school in 1992 (age 42 at the time) I commuted to school 60 miles one way did classes, comuttted back and worked an 8 hour job. Usually to bed at 2:00 AM after doing home work, Then up at at 5:00 AM for the commute to school to study before class. Not a recc course of action but it was what I had to do to get my course work done. I have no suggestions for sleep aids other then exhaustion.

I have had some trouble from time to time with sleep, but since my husband passed, and especially in the past few weeks, all I want to do is sleep...just sleep until it's time to be with him again. If I didn't have my son to take care of, I would probably never get up.

I had to take the tv out of my room because it kept me waking me up. Otherwise i have good nights and bad. warm milk sometimes works for me. I am nervous about sleep aids. Have tried melitonin it worked about as well as the warm milk.

Unfortunately, it seems to go along with the grief roller coaster theme. In the beginning all I could do was sleep . . during the day, any time of day and during the night. Hard to crawl out of sleep and the bed. Then I went through some bouts of insomnia, then back to sleeping, then back to insomnia. I still find that I have restless nights, sleepless nights. Meds work "sometimes", over the counter and/or script. I've just learned to accept that this is part of the journey. Sigh.
