On Dec 16, my husband and I were in a car accident. My husband died at the scene and I was cut from the car with multiple injuries but I will recover. I'm now the single mother of 4 children. People have been very helpful and giving and to look at me you would think I'm doing okay. However, the truth is I scared about the future, I'm angry, my heart aches and I'm just so numb most of the time. Of course because of my injuries I'm on pain meds and because I have to use a walker at the moment to get around, I haven't returned to our family home yet. I just don't understand how this could have happened and I don't even know where to start the healing. I'm strong during the day because I have 4 children who need me to be but at night when they are sleeping I'm not so strong. As you can see its after 2 AM and I'm still awake and crying. Night time is the only time I can grieve in peace. I hate the thought of returning home to sleep in a bed that I will no longer share with my husband.

First of all, let me say how very sorry I am for your loss. There really are no words. I am glad you found this site, as there are a number of people here who have also experienced the sudden loss of a spouse and been left behind with dependent children. When you are feeling better, contact Social Security because you are probably entitled to benefits for you and the kids. Also, when you are ready, consider a support group. You can also use this site as a place for support and resources. There are so many things to take care of after your spouse dies you can easily become overwhelmed and sometimes it helps to talk to others who have been there. Also........and you will here this a lot on this board.........remember to eat and drink, even if you don't feel like it. It really does help. I wish I had some great advice to offer you but I do not. Keep coming back to this site.......,the people here are decent people who will have your back.

Sharing and grieving together would be so helpful to you all. You will survive this as a family just love each other . It does get easier with time.. I read that once you start making new memories it gets easier ..i tried doing that remedy too fast and it seems as though i am going through a new growth..(( Hugs)))

First I would like to express condolences for your loss. Sylvia gave you great advice. I only been with this support group since last week and everyone been so nice and understanding. Yesterday was such a bad day but I got great advice and just knowing you are not alone. I am starting to trust in the Lord and give him all my problems. Someone gave my son a book on inspirational 365 day devotional by Sarah Young called Jesus Calling. It has really spoke to me. Just know in time things will get better. Love on the kids they need you and you talk with us in this group GREAT PEOPLE

We are stretched in ways that @ times seem unachievable
we are overwhelmed by the demands placed upon us
grieving is part of the journey
you have reached out to this group, that is a positive step
we have lost a spouse, our circumstances differ but we are here to offer comfort & understanding
I also have, Jesus Calling, I would also recommend it
A local hospital, church could be resources for a support group
It has been 3 years for me, adjusting continues even now

My goodness you have been given a challenge! Try to take it one day at a time and definitely get some counselling and support. God bless you!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I am struggling through a similar situation. My husband and I were in a car wreck on Sept. 17, 2016. He died and I survived. I have three children still at home. They are what keep me going. It is awful, but being strong for them gives me purpose and hope. Much love to you. Take things one breath at a time.

It's hard to be the strong one. Some days its a successful day just to get through it.
