My wonderful husband laid to his final rest

My husband passed very suddenly 5 weeks ago, yet I now realized I never really believed it until today.  I guess I was mostly in denial except for a few moments here and there.  But today he was buried with military honors.  We were married 32 years.  Now I know that he is truly gone and I can hardly wait to join him.  I am not suicidal and would never do anything to hasten my own death but oh, how I look forward to being with him.  I lived through other deaths including that of my sister at age 24 but I've never felt this kind of pain.  Before today I kept thinking about the meaning of life but now I don't even care.  This website is the only place I feel safe saying these things.  I don't want to burden my grown children.  I know I just have to suck it up but it surely is hard.

You are not alone. I lost my husband 2 years 5 months ago just before our 37th wedding anniversary. I have 3 grown children who are the reason I keep getting up every day. Otherwise, I see no point. I just move from one activity to the next to get to the end of another day. Some days are better than others, but I dread feeling this way everyday. Stay strong and be well.

Just know that we all understand how you are feeling - this is a life that we did not choose, and it is hard to go on without our loved ones by our side. Keep coming here and sharing; you are among friends. Hugs to you, Roxanne

Last year I lost my beloved husband, after more than 33 years together. Being there for our sons and knowing that my husband wouldn't like to see us suffering is what keeps me going on. I gain strength from my faith and my commitment to honor him. True love never dies. Stay connected, sending him your love and peace. The hard part will always be confronting the emptiness and the loneliness.

I feel the same way. I'm not suicidal but I just want life to be over so I can be with him. I not a strong as you are because I don't care who I burden. I did a lot for my kids. Not only did I raise them but I helped them pay for their homes and their college education. They have a good life because of me. Now I need their help. They need to be there for me for awhile. I will get back on my feet again and be able to be there for them again, but right now I need people around me who can be there for me.

I know. This is a time to receive support. Keep walking your path, because you WILL find a way through. Only us, really understand the daily struggle. Children process this in a different way. Family and friends may mean well, but life goes on for them. Ours is in an ongoing struggle, even though we may seem that everything is ok. This makes it harder on us, as time goes by and the support we still need, starts to fade away. I HOPE you find all the help you need. Don't give up!

I understand your pain
My husband died 4 months before retirement, so this is retirement, ALONE
Each day dawns anew, full of unlimited possibilities
Do what you can, it takes time
One moment, one step, one hour, one day @ a time
This is new to each of us, we adjust but in our own ways & in our own time
We are here for each other, drawing strength from those who have walked this journey before us
A local hospital or church may sponsor a support group, it's beneficial to talk with others who have experienced our loss

    Today I feel grateful. Grateful for my dog Blue (Blue Jean Baby Queen, Prettiest girl I've ever seen). Grateful I'm still kickin'. Grateful I'm finally taking responsibility for my health. Grateful I own my home. Grateful for good friends and neighbors who watch over me. Grateful to God for His everlasting love and patience with me. Grateful I survived the 10 years since my wife of 30 years...
