My second birthday without him

Thursday was my 62nd birthday, one that my husband didn't live to see. While I don't miss him any less than last year, this birthday seemed easier to "get through." My friends and family have gone to great lengths to make me feel very special and so loved! I am the type of person who typically likes to do for others, and make sure everyone is happy and well cared for. I am not one who is comfortable being center of attention, but I am learning to graciously accept my friends and family wanting to celebrate and care for me. So many lessons to be learned as I walk through this new life...

Absolutely and amen! I also am learning the need to be a gracious receiver as well as a giver. I've always been uncomfortable on the receiving side . . but am def learning that I do need people in my life that are giving. So glad you had a worthy, enjoyable Birthday!! Hi Nancy, Please accept my best wishes for a Happy Birthday. I am so glad you posted about the concept of being a gracious receiver. That is so important in our grief recovery.

I am coming up on our anniversary which I am sure will be a difficult "first" for me. I am blessed, as you are, with people in my life who will make sure I have the best day possible under the circumstances.

Happy Birthday!! I too like to do for others and have a hard time being the center of attention. However, we have been blessed with wonderful family and friends who are getting us through this journey!!! Yes, the new life and many lessons to be learned. Hugs. Sue

I too am turning 62 on the 20th of June. My wife used to try to surprise me every year. I always acted surprised but I kind knew what she was planning. I miss these little things so. We were married for 40 years, I guess it will take me a while to become just me.

Funny thing is I don't know who ME is. I've been a WE for so long, it became second nature to me. It's so hard for me to think of "dinner for one", "shopping for one", signing greeting cards with just "me" on them. Receiving mail, bills with just MY name on them......it's so strange and foreign to me.

I loved being a "we" and knowing that someone was looking out for me. Being alone is very strange and so lonely.

Birthdays are NEVER going to be the same!
