My puppies are mourning

My puppies have been acting strangely this last week or so. They are both rescues, from separate organization a couple months apart. I originally got the girl, Penny for my Tim. She seemed so lonely so we got the boy, Monty.
Tim liked to cuddle dogs and wouldn't you know Penny wasn't very huggy, but Monty loves Puppy time.
My Tim had to get up for work at 4:00am. Monty would get up and lay with his snout up to the bottom of the door until he was done getting ready. Sometimes Penny would join him.
This last week or so I've been woken up during the middle of the night once by Penny kissing my face. Another time by Monty laying his head on my chest. Both of these actions are very unusual.
Then this morning I got up and got my coffee and came back to bed to catch up on things on my iPad. Monty layed down in front of the closed bathroom door, eith his snout up to the bottom and started to cry.
That broke my heart.
For those that don't know Tim had his 1st heavenly Birthday on Aug 21st, so it's been more than a year. I've been having a tough week so I'm sure they are reacting to my emotions. But it was still heart breaking to hear my little boy puppie cry.

Most definitely our dogs mourn. I have 2 rescue dogs too and the little girl has started laying on the bedroom floor next to my husband's side of the bed. She also had stomach issues on Sundays.......the last day he was home.

Yes the dogs mourned for my husband. The one that was his turned on me. I tried everything but she just missed my husband so much. I found a friend that she loved. An elderly man. He took her and she is still with him and doing great. Hang in there

My husbands dogs mourned for him...they would sit at the top of the steps waiting for him to come up the stairs at the same time every night. It broke my heart. Colleen

I've never been a big animal person, but my girl was. We have two dogs, a chocolate lab and a little "bitty" chihuahua shitzu mix. Bitty was definitely her dog. She loved her and bitty adored Teresa. They were everywhere together. After my girl went home, my sister and brother in law took bitty to stay with them to help me out. She has now become part of the family, so I told them to keep her. The lab, Macy is 15 years old and having issues. I still take care of her but the beautiful affection she received from my girl is gone and I don't have it in me to give. Trust me, I take care of her but I don't love on her like my girl did. As a result, she has regressed rapidly and I don't give her to the end of the year. I feel bad but I can't change that and I don't feel like suffering a new loss, even if it's a dog, so I just go thru the motions without the affection. I feel bad but what else can I do?

My dog mourned too. Oddly, the cats didn't seem to. They seemed to focus more on me. The dog acted depressed and got sick quite a bit the first year.
She is better now.

Your doggie's reaction makes my heart cry. Dogs are so aware aren't they? My cats aren't like that. When one in the family goes, they all just move up one rung on the attention ladder. Still enjoy having them around though. Miss having a dog, mine passed away five months before my husband. Thinking about that keeps me from getting another one right now. Maybe next year.

I guess our cat was the exception to the rule - he yowled for days after Cliff died, going from room to room calling for him, even opening up cupboards with his paws to look for him! He refused to sit on the side of the bed that Cliff died in, and did all sorts of strange things that made me wonder if he could see things we couldn't. Izzy, our fur-baby, had to be put down on me and Cliff's anniversary. It was awful. I take some solace in knowing that if there is a heaven, he's back in Dad's lap purring away again.

Sorry you're having a rough time. Hang in there...

Yes, dogs do mourn their losses too. I remember our dog sitting with a mournful face watching my husband on his hospital trips. They know. Sharon

The first month after Mikes death or Sheltie Maggie would pace all night long. In comparison our Yellow Lab Jessica Hazel would not leave my side. Jessie would just cry to be near me. I believe that the dogs were feeling grief. How sweet.

    My mom passed away on June 18th. I was her cargiver and only child. Although she was 89 years young and it was "expected" I don't know how to BREATHE without her. I stay busy throughout the day but I can only do that so long until I burn out! I'm all alone now and don't know what I'm going to do!! I can only fake it for so long. I'm TIRED of losing my people!!!!
