Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
June 9th was eight months since I lost my husband. When it happened we were both 29 and had been together for 11 amazing years. As time passes it seems to get harder. I feel like I was in shock for the first few months and it just keeps settling in that he is not here. I still replay the day he died in my head everyday and I don't know how to make it stop.
Earlier this month was my 30th birthday and he was not with me. Today would have been our wedding anniversary and he is not with me. It is so difficult to accept he is gone and I can only think of what we would be doing today. The losing him has been an emotional roller coaster. But it's days like today that are so painful.
Someone who lost her husband young told me it gets better with time and you just have to wait to until the sadness slowly eases back and you are left with all of the happy memories. I can only hope that it is true.

And don't let anyone tell you to "it's time to pull yourself together/ you need to move on/ pack up his stuff" - there's no 'right' way to grieve, and you will when you are ready. You DO have to just push through the sad times though. If you have someone or friends you can talk to or cry with - do it as much as you need - that's what gets you through it. My small children kept me busy, but if you don't have that, keep yourself busy - I would plan things for every weekend, until I wasn't afraid of a lonely weekend anymore. And when we moved from our house 3 1/2 years later, was the first time I unpacked his cupboards and night dresser. I still sleep on 'my' side of the bed, but for the last year, if someone lovely swanned into my life, I'd consider slowly moving on. You'll get there and as you're so young, you really DO have years ahead to heal and still have a joyous life with someone else, if you one day feel ready for it. Just take each day at a time and know there really ARE going to be many terrible days until they become fewer than the good days. Reach out to any support you've been offered on those days.
