It is two months tomorrow since my husband passed away suddenly. I feel nothing but emptiness and a void that I cannot fill no matter what I do to keep myself occupied. I feel like I live in an alternate universe and it is like a nightmare that never ends.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I found this site several months after losing my husband who was only 59, I was 55. It has been almost 16 months now. Initially I was in shock and the real pain didn't even begin for a month. It's been a journey and in the beginning I neded to know that others understood and had survived this awful experience. It still hurts, I am missing him every day. But it does change over time. The terrible pain does subside and it becomes part of you. Not easy as this is not the life we chose but you do begin to live again not just exist. In the beginning I did a lot of reading about losing a spouse, went to a bereavement group and joined a group of widows and widowers who met once or twice a month. Allow yourself to feel whatever you feel but do try to take care of yourself. Sleep, exercise and other self care helps. I wish you peace on your journey. God Bless

I feel your pain. It will be 3 months for me on Sunday and I am still lost. I am glad that I found this group, it helps knowing that I am not alone.

Hi Winn. It's been five months for me and although I think it is getting better, I still miss my husband like crazy. This board helps me at times and I also went to a GriefShare group and that also helped.

Dealing with life"s upheavals is a challenge. It has been 3 years for me. Initially, it was just putting one foot in front of the other. Give yourself credit for accomplishments: getting out of bed, getting dressed, eating. Doing the "little" steps will give you the confidence needed to tackle other tasks. A local hospital lists support groups in the newspaper, churches also offer support groups.

We are overwhelmed @ times, stretched beyond belief, the harshness does lessen.

The pain and the emptiness. .the everything is empty. I feel alone..and sit. Sit and think. Think and think some more. .My brain does not do what i want it to do. It does get easier with time..you slowly get used to this feeling..and then Bang something happens. .life never stops for no one. .it's a life where the only one who can change it is me. But have to allow the healing to happen or I will never be whole again..Baby steps..
