So - where are all our midwesterners? Did everyone notice the south had a post and there were 20-some responses - yet our Midwest area only had me and the person who is holding the BBQ and one other person!! Come on all you midwestern people.

We want to get a more definite count of who is coming and who may think it is possible they will come. This is July 17 and July 18. Some will be staying at the Super 8 Motel - which is $75/night. (Two people are coming for both Friday and Saturday night). This will be near Valparaiso which is about 1 hour from Chicago. If someone needs a ride please let us know.

So - all the rest - please respond - so we have a better idea of how to plan food. etc. This will be a nice, fun, expensive time together. Respond either to this or send me a message.

OK - now the south is up to 35 responses - and the midwest is still at zero - except for me!!

Where are all the midwestern people??? They are slaughtering us!!

I guess I'd be considered midwestern (in Ohio) but I'm not able to make the July get together. It does sound like fun and being fairly new here, not sure how often these get togethers happen, but would enjoy being able to make one in the future.

Hope it works out for more of you to come..even southerners welcome..lol.....I am practicing just in case I get to venture south........ya'll come.........even if it is Valpo....I can cook a southern bbq...or get Joley to send a recipe........

I'm in Kentucky and Chicaco is about an 6-7 hour drive for me.

But, as I finally came clean about on the Southern post, I'm kind of afraid to travel so far from home when I've never met anybody. Do either of you feel this way?

Are we having a contest? LOL I hope you get plenty of people to say they will come and show up too. I would come -- even if I am a Southerner--- LOL, if I had someone to come with me.

I am cooking...........and getting a southern recipe from you dearie...........sorry I didn't get your name spelled right.........Joely......if our group is small, I can handle it right here..........now if we get a crowd like the one coming to the south...........that's another story....lol........am going to try to make yours too.

And yes, I did get concerned about having people I had never met here but then I figured what the heck..............I"m not living with as much fear as I used to because I know I will end up with Norm if anyone goes postal.................(he was a letter carrier before he retired and it was one of our inside jokes.......)

I plan on attending. At this point, I'm not sure whether I will be staying one or both nights, but I definitely plan on attending the gathering.

Let me know how I can help out. What a great summer of getting to know as many DSers as distance permits!

Parmela - We're actually meeting near Valparaiso, IN so it is not as far as Chgo. There are 3 people coming from quite a distance and staying 2 nights (Fri & Sat) at the motel - I'm staying one. So - if you're looking for a weekend get-a-away - that's what this is.

As far as not knowing anyone - it's not like we're completely strangers - we just haven't seen one another yet - and we all joined the group for the same reason - which gives us a common bond - which - is something I certainly can't find around where I live.

I hope this is a little closer to you than you thought and you might be able to make it.

KOA or A-OK???..........there is a campground in Michigan City which isn't too far....and ther are a few others around.........tha person I talked to didn't know what KOA meant ..........and not being a camper, neither do I.........if you check out campgrounds near Valparaiso or Chesterton IN that will work too..........think there is a campgrounds right at the dunes too..........L

We are having a BBQ on Saturday, July 17 at Lori's house (lkmeb) which is in Indiana between Chesterton and Valparaiso. We decided on the Super 8 which is in Valparaiso. A few people will be arriving on Friday and staying 2 nights. I live about 1 1/2 hrs away and plan to stay 1 night in the motel. (I live northwest of Chgo if anyone wants a ride). Lori is providing the "main course" and we're asking everyone to bring something (chips/salad) - and will probably decide on that more as we get closer. On Sunday we decided to go to Indiana Dunes which is nearby - and pickup some type of breakfast/brunch before we go. If you have any other questions you can reply here or send me a message. Hope you can come!

I was contacted on this event. It is too far away from rural southern Illinois and I have two small kids. I would also have to cancel out on a band gig which means three others wouldn't get paid for the weekend.

I am thinking about this. Possibly bringing another widow friend with.
We are thinking and may just do this as a road trip for fun! Will get back soon.
