dcharamie, I too love my husbands's scent. When I get overwhelmed I curl up on our bed and hug his pillows. His scent is still there and I find comfort and yet loneliness too. Was looking for something the other day and pulled out his sweater and cryed my eyes out, still smells like him. The loneliness is so so powerful and with me constantly. The nights are the worst. Even after loved ones have gone through & taken stuff I still have a closet full of her clothes...and they still have her scent. I go in there periodically and instantly begin speaking to her. Even though Oct will be a year, when the moments come reflecting the finality of it all, it can still feel like the air is being sucked from my lungs.

I put my husband's after shave or cologne on our pillows. It comforts me. Hugs and love, Kim

What ever brings us comfort is a blessing. I have kept all of Jeanne clothing. when she first passed I laid pillows on her side of the bed and laid her night gown on the pillow and also sprayed her perfume. Just trying to find ways to ease the pain. there are certain items I have held aside to make sure they did not go through the wash so her scent is still there. dcharamie you can see that clinging on to scents to bring us comfort is something others in this group also do. Hope you got through the tough night and that today will be a little easier for you.

The back bedroom still smells like my husband, even though I have the window open in there...my son goes in there and just sits in the middle of the room...I can't...last night he forgot to turn off the light,so I had to go in...and I could still smell him...I burst into tears and shut the door.

I have a couple of his pieces of clothing that still smell like him. and I, too, occasionally put some of his aftershave on his pillow. Sometimes it hurts to much to do those things, though, because it is such a bleak reminder that this is all I have left. oh... it is going to be a weepy day, I can feel it.

The loneliness is hard to take. I scramble to find things that still have his scent on them. I had to wash his clothes as he was in the construction field and I had no place to store them unwashed. I too hold on to his pillow and the things that were closest to him. When he passed I was 2.5 hours away. When I got to the hospital a nurse handed me a bag with his personal things in it. When I got home that night I opened the bag. Inside it was his wallet, change, cash, and a a note attached to a piece of fabric I didn't recognize. The note said "this is your husband's pocket I cut it out so you would have something that was close to him so he could be close to you" Needless to say I cried so hard. I still do but that is one of the things I hold very dear to my heart. Hugs

I have this ball cap that probably has never been washed that I tuck into a pillowcase. It stinks! Smells like sweat and maybe dead fish or whatever Mike killed when he wore it. It is just a familiar scent that has mellowed some over the years but has not entirely gone away. Sorry, Ladies but I can not stand the smell of cologne so I will gladly keep the stinky cap.

When Tim died 7.5 years ago I sealed one of his t-shirts in a plastic freezer bag, and expelled all the air from the bag. I could open the bag, sniff his smell, and reseal the bag. I still have the bag with his shirt in it, but, the smell has pretty much gone from it. I would say it lasted around 5 years though.

Scent of a woman comes to mind . . . cherish the aroma while you still have it. Mourn, grieve, hug the scent, remember her . . . let it help you settle into your new norm. :( Sorry. It is bitter sweet. Thinking of you, xo, D

I still have Morey's closet pretty much intact......it's been 28 months since he passed. I have given away some of his clothes, shoes, hats and belts. But there are a few boxes of his stuff that remain closed that I haven't opened. Every time I open the closet it smells like him and I have to close it so I don't lose it!

I will ALWAYS want to have him near to feel, sense and smell him.

The longing for him is as intense to day as it was before he passed.

Yes I have been hugging and cherishing it. It's silly, this used to be one of her favorite sweatshirts and I think she even forgot she had it, it was of the cat from the Pepe LePew cartoon and she was being chased by Pepe. That was kind of a joke with us, because I'm Cajun and I would sometimes do my best pepe accent for her.

Meh.. My own thread is making me teary-eyed..

Oh my gosh! I to lined his side of the bed with pillows. We have a king size bed. He was 6' 1' and 240 lbs. I'm 5' 100 lbs that bed is huge to me. I have his jacket he always wore and his old dirty baseball hat. 2 of his favorites he always wore. His smell is fading. I noticed the other day when I walked in the closet. I hugged his jogging jacket. I thought oh no he's gone, now his scent is fading. It's hard. So hard. I wish you all the best. Maybe one day it won't hurt so bad. Oh what a feeling that can come over us with the clothes of our lost beloveds.
I sleep with my hubbys pillow.I love his soft white t-shirts, never realized they were so soft on the skin. I still have his jeans he last wore for his final Petscan on a small bench folded there with the pair of white socks he wore. He only had them on a few hours but I can't move them. I have picked them up and held them against me and my mind is flooded with the bad news from the scan. But either way, I leave them their. His shoes and boots are in the same spot too.
Some of his clothing i gave to a young man who admired my husband very much and this young man our friend, comes and helps me clean etc outside whenever he has a day off from school and work. He cherishes what I give him and appreciates them.
I like that alot.
Yesterday was 10 months Don has been gone. I can't believe it.
But saddest to me was no one called to say, I remember. But i suppose i can't expect them to call every month either. Just would be nice of them to mention it.

thanks everyone for sharing and your kind words...its probably because i am beyond tired, that im exceptionally emotional lately..

the house is coming along..new carpet was installed on the 8th..tomorrow painters are coming..i worked all weekend trying to get the rooms empty...so far the house is winning that fight..i am taking a few minute break and then back to work..i have 11 hours before the are here..12hrs 15 minutes til i have to call in to my 1st work meeting..if i survive tonight, "its all downhill" and painting should be done by friday i hope
