Today marks the 1 year from my husbands memorial service.
Reflecting it was super for him - ~300 people in our local park, BBQ abd potluck with a beer salute.
It was his wishes - and the local community put it on for him and I.
What is still sad is his two sons never pariticpated - came home from a fishing trip that morning to be there. Even though I called numerous times to get them to input something (as did my husbands brother from CO) they never did. Yet to this day have bad feelings stating I never included them.
Alls I did is allow the community here to do it for us. AND I set the date.
I am having to remind myself I could have been Mother Teresa and they still would have bitched -
I am proud of what I did that day for him. It was really him, I still get comments about it. AND others later followed my suit in having a park type service.

I LOVE the idea of a BBQ and the Beer salute....Fantastic.
You SHOULD be PROUD of that, and giving him a send off that he WANTED!!! There's nothing you can do about the sons. They are big boys and have to own what they decide in life too. As you said you included them. thje6y decided not to be there. that's on THEM, not YOU.
with G I wanted his visitation to be more like an Irish wake, and it was. Full of stories, and laughter along with the tears. not everybody agreed fully, but it was for him, and I did for HIM so we went with it, and compromised the rest.

My MIL did the same type of crap. I know my hubby would have LOVED the things I did for him.
