I adopted a dog within 2 weeks of my husbands passing. I was tired of talking to myself. My dog listens, responds, doesn't argue. Doesn't ask for much. Watches EVERYTHING I do.... lol. My daughter-in-law says he keeps his eyes on me, all the time. If someone speaks to him, he looks to me, for my permission to respond. He cries when I leave the house, without him. He is my companion. If you are crazy, I am right beside you...lol Sandee

You are not crazy at all! I talk to my husband all of the time.....and my dog bonnie....sometimes I think she rolls her eyes at me.

Diane, you're not crazy. I hear birds chirping all the time as I never heard before, and I cried and talked back to them, as my wife's Chinese name is Little Bird. We all grieve differently. If you are crazy, then I have been there for many years! I too talk to my dogs all the time. I do have a son that lives with me, but don't see much of him as he works the grave yard shift. I know my kids really miss their dad! But I also know losing a parent though extremely hard is a different kind of grief than losing a spouse, So I am so thankful I found this site. you are not crazy. I don't have a pet but i do talk to my husbands picture all the time. 4 months is not long. Good for you planting a garden. I planted some tomatoes and peppers the trick will be remembering to water. Big hug-Patti

I have a 90lb Lab named Horton. We talk all the time, He's a head "cocker"...You know the dog that turns his head from side to side as if he's taking it all in and listening and hanging on every word you're saying.....it's so cute.

Morey loved to garden and I consider it an honor to keep his plants alive. The were mostly potted and I had to give away some because It was overwhelming but the ones that I've kept are doing amazing well.

We call them "PaPa's plants" and when the kids come over they get a kick out of how big they've all gotten in the 26 months that he's been gone!

I, too, talk to his pictures, which are all over the house.

Oh no, you are not crazy. I have pictures of Larry & I all over the house & many on the frig. I tell him how much I love & miss him all day. I retired early to take care of him & be with him, hoping that during our Golden years we could more things. But not to be.

Now am also thinking about getting a dog because it has been many years since I have had one .... Not sure if I'm ready yet.

I talk to my animals a lot, but I have always done it. of course, now my conversation is different. my 11 mo old pup was the last gift my husband got for me, that was 5 months before he died without warning. Her behavior has completely changed since he died. She must know that I need her more. so she sits with me in my recliner all evening, like velcro. she is at least 45 lbs of pure love. I talk to her about Papa being gone now. She knows. BOTH our dogs have quit getting up on the couch where he used to lay and watch tv at night.
It was mostly the small older one who always laid down with him of right by his feet on the couch. but she no longer gets up there at all.
I am considering getting rid of that couch. if I can find another one real cheap. no money.
If not for my pup showing extra large amounts of love and need for me, I would be inconsolable, lost and alone here, especially evenings.

Far from crazy my friend. I call it "sanity"!! I've always been a self-talker, but found that after J passed, I was talking not only to self, but to the dogs, ranting and raving at the Universe, talking to Jim on a daily basis, more often than not. At 14 months, I'm still talking at random. Where's the "off switch"? I don't think there is one, and that's okay! Hugs, D
