LOVE--What Does It Mean To You??

Forty years ago in 1970, the movie "Love Story" captured America. Those of us old enough to remember will probably never forget Ali McGraw telling Ryan O'Neil that "Love means never having to say you're sorry....".

As I am reflecting on my love of my Barbara, I keep asking myself what "love" means to ME. And I am really perplexed. It seems such a simple question about something all of us here in this forum have experienced. But I am wresting with a way to articulate my OWN thoughts in a short space. Oh, there are a myriad of quotes, both famous and obscure, but in the spirit of healing ourselves, I wish to ask my friends here to take a moment to express what "Love' means to you in as short a means as possible. An original quote from your hearts, if you will.

Wow - I don't know what I can say that hasn't been said. Mark and I also met and fell in love later in life. We both had kissed some toads before we found each other..................and neither one of us had ever felt so perfectly in love before. My heart never felt so safe with another human being - I know that I was loved unconditionally and I love Mark the same way.
I was the lucky one - without a doubt. And even though he is gone - I still feel his love surround me and I still love him with every beat of my heart.

Just an observation, but unless I have missed something, we have 16 responses in about 7 hours......all of them from the ladies. And every single one of them is a testament to the men that you love. While I really can't articulate why, suffice it to say that you all have really helped me today by sharing your expressions of love and the insight into your very souls......and for this I thank you......Joe...:-)

I was married twice...the first time when I was only 18, so was the "boy"...he chose to end the marriage less than 2 years into it because he had found someone else to "love"...With Snake, I KNEW, right from the start, that he would never betray me in that way or any other...For me that is LOVE...the absolute unshakable confidence that nothing but death would/could end our life on earth together...

Love to me encompasses all: Faith, hope, charity, but the greatest of all is LOVE.
Those 3 words + truth-- fulfill all of the traits everyone has mentioned here -- all in the name of Love. Also, I have to add forgiveness is also true love.

I think we both realized from the very first that we were destined to be together. It was as if our halves were finally a whole. It was an unconditional love for both of us and even death cannot rob me of his love.....I carry it still in my heart.

think for every relationship it is different. It for me was looking across the room and our eyes meet and we knew what the other was thinking. It was being together but also allowing each to grow. It is asking God to take you and let them live. It is now the pain each of us feel now that our heart is torn in two without them. It is still feelling their spirit with us and that even death can not steal what we shared together and will forever.
Hard to put in words everything someone is to you.

There is no "cure" for love,when you find the one person who you choose to be with,when no other love can take their place,lt lasts throughout the time you have with them,lt carries on after death.
l did,t realise how much l loved and cared for Frank until he was taken from me,now the love we had sustains me for the rest of my days.the love will always be with me,and l know he has taken this love with him.

Love is accepting your partner for what they are, not what you want them to be. Putting their health, happiness and welfare above your own.

I made my share of mistakes, but learned by them. However, I did everything to make Richard's life better and enjoyed every second.

He, on the other hand, loved me unconditionally to the degree that he did everything he could to live because he loved and didn't want to leave me.

And still bound in love by spirit.

To me love was always putting Diana first, from work to play my greatest joy was putting a smile on her face. Then again, she always managed to put a smile on my face too.

Love to me is everything that envelopes a good soul, my husband, my children my true friends, and those that are most precious to me. The no effort to lay down everything and all for the one before you, and the light in your eyes that diminishes when you suffer a loss.

I can give no definition that hasn't been given here already. I agree with them all. But wanted to add that this reminds me of the old "Love Is...." cartoon. I am really too young to remember them, but I know they were in the newspaper every day back in the early 70's. It was a boy and girl character and each day "love" would be something new. My big sister would cut them out of the paper and mail one to her boyfriend every day. They were married in 1972 and are still very happy together....so I guess love truly is all those different things.
