I could see that with my husband - that we willingly made sacrifices for each other that didn't even feel like giving anything up because we mattered so much to each other. Taking care of him at the end was my privilege, not at all a burden. I think this is the most solid definition for me.
Good question.

For me love is complete trust in your partner. Knowing his or her aim is always for the best for you as a couple. The comfort of being with your best friend, also a matter of trust. Being able to be yourself, also a matter of trust. To love completely is to trust completely, with trust you are free to love. Never fearing being betrayed always knowing they have your back. Eggs are delicate, I would only put all my eggs in the basket of someone I fully trusted. For the very first and probably only time in my life I found true and trusting love in Rudy
When he got up at 5 in the morning to go get milk for my little one....I saw love.
When he spoke such sweet words in my ear when I was sick...I heard love.
When we had our last kiss...I tasted love.
When we wept in that hospital room...I wept in the presence of love.
We both had a long, hard road to each other and truly appreciated and respected and deeply loved one another.
my heart always smiled seeing him coming up the driveway even after 23 yrs.
he would tell me no other woman on this earth is loved as much as me.
i could always be myself & he with me.
we were perfect together & we felt true deep love for each other.
i wish i had something new and profound, but my favorite summation of true love was written awhile ago in a song.
'YOU KNOW YOU REALLY LOVE SOMEONE WHEN YOU SEE THE FACES OF YOUR UNBORN CHILDREN IN THEIR EYES"
i do not think it has to be taken as literally as unborn children, i think it was more about seeing all the unborn chapters of your life in their eyes.
that was what i felt from the very beginning with Bob, i never needed once to give it thought!

Love between my husband and me was -- everything! We were partners, mates, friends, lovers -- there was nothing too trivial that we did not discuss. We did everything together (we had worked together and then I retired with him). We could complete each other's sentence or answer before a question was asked. So, for me, the love I shared with my husband meant that while we were in two separate bodies, we shared only one heart. Thank you for this compelling challenge.
When one of you is gone you still feel the other persons love because your combined soul is still smiling back at you in your heart. They are still there and you still can hear the song.
