Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

First, please accept my condolences to you for the loss of your life partner. I am a pretty open so I hope I don't get kicked outta here for what I share next. You do matter. You matter to your wife, to your kids. You matter to the co-workers, the mailman, the store clerks, you matter.
You need to be enough for you to keep going--minute by minute. I am not going to bore you with my story, as we each are hurting or we would not be here. I will, however, share my darkest second. After him being gone for a long time, I didn't matter to me anymore. I am glad some days that my feet hit the floor and some days I wish it would be silent. My kids have their own perspective to live with, so being alone with this rawness inside is what I try to do.
Write to her, sing to her, find the little things that she is sending to you. A butterfly, a smile, a song on the radio, honor her by making yourself matter.
Grief is a different pain that only people who have been through it understand. Look for friends and family who will support you and not after a period of time, think you are over it as they say and move on with their lives. They do not understand and never will. Grief isn't something you get over, I really do not like how people say that, they have no clue. Grief is something that we live with for the rest of our lives. We do not want to ever forget our loved ones, we have precious memories that help us survive and cope.
I hope you are getting some relief here Rick. It has helped me tremendously to share my feelings on the site. There is something very healing about it. God bless you.....hang in there! linda
