it has been 4 weeks since my Husband died and I still wait for his life insurance and 401K money from his company.I called them and informed them about his death more then 3 weeks ago.
I would like to ask other widows and widowers about your experience in this matter.How long it usually takes to get the money? I am getting my Husband's medical bills every day plus other payments and it worries me that it takes so long.Please share your story.Love,Ann

Jeff's first wife's name was also Elizabeth. Same as mine. So I had to deal with finding ways to make sure they ONLY discussed life insurance with me and NOT HER!!! Took awhile to get it through their heads. She tried several times to get information. He changed the beneficiary to me and took her and his 2 grown daughters off too. She was concerned that Jeff would do that to her daughters and wanted proof that I was not taking THEIR money.
It took almost 2 months for me to finally get checks in hand. I still have to get a letter from the courts stating I am Administrator because he did not have a will. And he has his 401K and stock at Morgan Stanley. But I have a while to deal with it.
All I can say is be diligent!! Make calls everyday. Be friendly and let them see how it is affecting you. Someone will care and hopefully take you under their wing and want to make it right as fast as they can.
