Sitting online for hours wishing for someone to talk to, but realizing there is nobody to talk to.

I joined a dating website because I am so lonely. Met a guy. We talked for hours and hours. I haven't talked to him since. Partially on me, and partially on him. Neither of us pursued after the hours and hours. I don't know if I did something, but I really don't care. I know what it is I am looking for and I am not going to find it online, or in person, or on this earth. How long does the grieving process take?

I was on a dating site for people over 50 and was able to find friends without commitment. That's what I believe you had with the guy you described. It didn't need to go any further and you were right in how you handled it. Meet up group can be great also, but so can just putting on a smile at wherever you are. Keep your options open and your eyes open because you need to be careful of who you let in your life in these times. It applies to dating sites, but so much more.

I met my husband on the dating site and am amazed at how wonderful he is. But I was choosey. I knew what I wanted and when I was ready to let someone in my life. There are people who met there husband's here on DS and are very happy.

It's not where you meet it's you being ready and who you are ready for. It won't be your husband. For a while that's who we long for. The last stage of grieving is acceptance. That's when you are ready to move to the next part of your life with or without someone. Either way is correct. It's your choice. Sharon
