Hi, Dave. (That was my husbands name). My situation is very similar. I lost my husband after an 18 month battle with Leukemia. We have 3 daughters ages 16, 13 & 10. It will be 4 months tomorrow. I can't even imagine how hard it is for a dad to take over the mom role for the kids. We all have good and bad days, but my girls seem to have be adjusting quite well. I am still a stay at home mom and trying my best to keep their lives as normal as possible. Between soccer, cheer, playdates, school work I like staying really busy so I don't focus on my grief. I am lucky to have friends and family for support, but it's obviously not the same as having my husband. Trying everyday to live the life he wanted me and the girls to. He wanted more than anything for us to be happy so I try and find something every day to be grateful for. Good luck. Donna.

Welcome Dave to the club none of us wanted to be in. You will find a lot of comfort here... and at the very least you will learn that you are "normal"... that has helped me so much.

Hi Dave, I am so sorry for your loss. i lost my husband of 35 years last October. My kids are grown and have kids of their own. They have busy lives. I know this will sound strange but I would like to have them the age of your kids and with me again. It would somehow make it easier to deal with the loss. I feel I have no purpose anymore. He, my husband, was my purpose for living. Love those kids, know they need you and your wife would want you to care for them with love and patience. I am so sorry you are in pain. I can't say it will get better but you are young enough unlike me, to find love again one day. Stay strong and know others care. Linda

Linda, not sure why you think age has to do with finding love again. If you open your heart to love, it can be found. Don't feel your age prevents you from living a happy life. My hubby told me he wanted me to be happy again. For me there won't be any time for love for quite awhile. Busy raising 3 daughters ages 16, 13, & 10. I read something recently on facebook that said those who loved deeply are more willing to open their heart again. Good luck!!

I am so sorry Dave. I too joined not to long ago and visit the site when I can. I lost my husband 14 months ago and my first born son in 2000. All I would like to say is that whatever emotions you and all of us here feel are VERY valid.

Cherish your memories and love your kids with all that you are. You are lucky to have them.
