I lost my husband at the end of October. It seems as if the weather amplifies my grief. It's been cold, dark and rainy and my saddness and loneliness feels overhwelming. I can't stop crying and it seems unreal that he's gone. I used to love being outside and walking even looking outside always boosted my mood, now everything is just gloomy and gray.

Depression is affected by weather and yes grieve affects us in the way depression would . Eventually it will get better but for now it is perfectly normal to feel the way you do.

Yes the weather seems to make it worse for me too. I lost my husband in just 5 weeks of his cancer diagonise. It's very cold here now and I can't even make myself go to the grocery store. Everything we share for 44 years is now up to me alone. It always feels so overwhelming. We did everything together. We were best friends. I feel your pain. I try so hard not to cry that I'm just tired of being strong for everyone else. I wish I could take a vacation from being me and just for a little while go back to that so in love couple we were.

Hi Unique,

No, it's not just you. I lost my husband in August and I used to love the winter - the early darkness, the holiday season, etc., but now it just speaks to me of grief, despair and gloom.

Thank goodness it's not just me. The cloudy weather is really effecting me as well. Today was an easier day but the sunshine finally came out. I have been emotional all week been missing our friendship most this is the time of year we would hide out from the cold and just enjoy each other. Sad to be alone...

I always had problems with the early darkness in the winter and the cloudy days that went on forever. Loosing my wife has made it worse. It does make depression worse. With me it does. Can't wait for the spring and summer. I lost my wife in the middle of August. So I didn't have long till it started getting cold and dark.

Like Shannon- Thank goodness it is not just me. Even though my children keep me busy, I still feel lonely (morso in the winter). Even though it has been 1 1/2 years. I keep strong by looking forward VS looking back. Upcoming Hockey tourney/ Spring Break Trip. Hug those around you for strength.
