Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Some have released balloons in memory of and honor of his life. I am sorry you have to endure this pain. Hugs, Sharon
Take a few helium-filled balloons to a park, to his grave, to the back yard or wherever. Each person who desires write a note to him on a sticker, place all the stickers on the balloons - and then let them go. We did this once at the cemetery, which is a beautiful spot, and some of the grands had not been there since the funeral.
You and many others will be missing their husbands, fathers, grandfathers this Sunday. May God bless us all --- Doye
So your role as a parent is to create a new tradition for your family. It is not an easy thing to do because you are also in pain and grieving, but you can do it, for yourself, for your kids to learn how to honor their Father.
Ideally, if you involve kids in a planning stage, and let them participate in making plans. But it might be too difficult for them, the loss is so recent, thus it might be too confusing for them. However, you open the door for their suggestions.
Focus on celebrating his life, so ask your kids to write one short story, or a one sentence of how they remember him as their Dad; they can be short, long, sad or funny, as long as he is the main focus, it will be good for all of you.
It also can be very healing, because his presence will be felt as a part of your gathering, and kids will have an opportunity to feel it and the chance to expres their thoughts and feelings.
The activities can be around candles, flowers, his favorite dishes, family photos, letting go of colorful balloons, mementos, his personal things; all these things can be a part of your celebration.
Learning to make his favorite food, playing his favorite music, playing games you used to play together. Anything that will give the sense of continuity of the past into today and into the future. Perhaps planting a tree together...
I hope some of my ideas will work for you.
ou can do it.
Warm hug.
