I just lost it...

I just had it out with the insurance company about Rob's life insurance. I sent in the paperwork for the claim a month ago (after a 4 month run around) and haven't heard back. I've been trying to get answers from his employer and they have been trying to get answers from the insurance company. So I called today. OMG!!!! It took them 6 people to tell me that they didn't have my paperwork. I lost it on the poor guy. I cried. I yelled. I said they were cruel and horrible. I told them to f off and go to hell! Cause that's what they're putting me through! It was glorious! It felt so good to tell them off. I'm sure I will feel bad for the poor guy later. I'm sure I now have a crazy person flag on my file. But oh well. I just cracked. Couldn't do it anymore. I just started to sob and yell. oops.

I told all of this to Rob's employer. Who has now confirmed that they did get my paperwork and that there is some mess but that its not my fault. So they are going to raise hell on my behalf. Thanks the gods.

It seems very cruel that they would put a widow through all this misery.

Wow they are cruel. Looks like you got things rolling though so your blow up on phone worked. Claim should be straight forward. Do what you must to look after yourself.

Many hours later I feel bad for the poor guy I yelled at. He's just doing his job. I don't feel bad at all for exploding. Just wish it could have been to someone higher up.

I think we have all had moments when everything catches up with us and knock us for a loop. and I am sure you are not the first to take it out on someone we wish had been someone else. after we have time to think about it.
I hope the insurance problem is worked out correctly.

I had a horrible time with the life insurance company too. The funeral director told me that my company had given them a harder time than he had ever gotten from anyone else and he had been in the business for almost thirty years.

I had Prudential- a group policy through work. I finally did get the payment- but it took a lot of complaining.

Don't feel guilty for anything you have to do to get your check. It is your check- you deserve it!

Well, I've got two magic words for you, "bad faith". You might drop that in a letter to them, put the mess up in writing to them, date your letter, and keep a copy for your records. Insurance companies are regulated by the state insurance commissioner (or whatever your agency your state has, but they all do have an agency to regulate insurance companies. After explaining to them in writing how tormented they made you feel, and whatever else you feel like writing, tell them to let you know how they are going to fix this problem or you will file a complaint for bad faith with the insurance commissioner (or similar agency that handles this type of thing in your state). That will get it kicked upstairs. And if they don't do anything, get a hold of whoever you said you would, and file a complaint. The state agency is there to prevent abuses like this from happening. I would like to add to Scotties note to send your letter certified. That way they can not claim they never got it.

I know how you feel -- when that one person who makes you jump through that one extra "hoop" gets all of your frustration and anger from all that is happening to you, it isn't pretty, but it's OK. You were right to let it out. Another thing to try is to call the state insurance commissioner where you live. They regulate these companies and they will make sure the companies behave according to the law. Claiming that paperwork is lost is a infamous made-up excuse to delay a payment. Good luck to you in getting resolution without more frustration.

So I just got a call from them. Whoever I talked to yesterday was wrong. They are actually sending me a cheque presently. (The lady apologized for me getting the wrong info yesterday.) But they just had to torture me a bit first! Sigh. As long as it is coming!

I did send his employer on the war path which probably helped. I am in Canada and I don't know about how the regulations are for all of this up here. I think I am going to find out who I can complain to though.

I know this sounds like I'm wishing this on others but would not if I could to anybody. But it is written that what we are going thru is common to everyone. So one day all these folks who are not being human are not being sinsitive to other's needs will, unfortunately be there also. I wish it were different.
Back when I first started talking to creditors and utiliy people telling them what hapened that my wife had passed and I was trying to organize things, at the end of the conversation I would get a have a nice day or weekend. REALLY!!!
