I bought a new toy yesterday, or should I say another piece of equipment. Since my husband's illness required so much of my attention these past several years and he was no longer able to do anything strenous, both the inside and outside of our home have gone to hell. No ones fault, it is what it is. So I have weeds that have come to stay. With all the moisture we have had they are thriving. They are too tall for the lawn mower and too thick for my string trimmer. So I bought a thing that has different attachments and one is for cutting brush. Yes I should be getting help from others, but this should be a good physical stress reliever if it cools off. Now it's 100 in the shade. I have never been one to "wait" on anyone to get something done. I was raised with three brothers, no sisters. Hated housework, still do. Would rather be doing something construtive outside than mundane tasks inside. To the point my son in law told my husband years ago that he should give me a tool belt for our anniversary. I said no if I wanted a tool belt I would just buy one and better not get one for our anniversary. Anyway, am hoping for some cooler weather or getting enough sleep to get outside in the morning. Would love to show some kind of accomplishment. Especially since I have learned I can cry and multi task too. One thing about me, if someone thought or said I couldn't do something, I would prove them wrong. Except for heighths. (phobia I don't plan on working on). Silly to think I am excited about a tool! ha ha, Hugs to all, Michele
This post and replies has reaffirmed my belief that anybody can do anything, if they have to. My hat's off to you all.
Just a serious note. You are venturing into a world of some powerful equipment and I know that in general you're probably being careful but I'll say it anyway, be careful of your fingers, toes, and especially eyes. This equipment can do a lot of damage quickly.

It's good you are learning how to do all this stuff, just please also learn the safety precautions, too.
What are you going to do once you've got the land cleared? Have you thought about how you want to use that space? Could be a good opportunity to create something nice and fun for yourself.

I had to do the same thing my husband passed on January 17 2015, we were married for 27 years and I had never been on a mower, well I have now huge yard and I could not get the weed thing to work so I purchased one that had a battery. It was expensive but well worth the money.... you load the string so easy you just turn the wheel.... I am new here but have been reading and getting my strength from all you ......thanks so much
