I bought a new toy!

I bought a new toy yesterday, or should I say another piece of equipment. Since my husband's illness required so much of my attention these past several years and he was no longer able to do anything strenous, both the inside and outside of our home have gone to hell. No ones fault, it is what it is. So I have weeds that have come to stay. With all the moisture we have had they are thriving. They are too tall for the lawn mower and too thick for my string trimmer. So I bought a thing that has different attachments and one is for cutting brush. Yes I should be getting help from others, but this should be a good physical stress reliever if it cools off. Now it's 100 in the shade. I have never been one to "wait" on anyone to get something done. I was raised with three brothers, no sisters. Hated housework, still do. Would rather be doing something construtive outside than mundane tasks inside. To the point my son in law told my husband years ago that he should give me a tool belt for our anniversary. I said no if I wanted a tool belt I would just buy one and better not get one for our anniversary. Anyway, am hoping for some cooler weather or getting enough sleep to get outside in the morning. Would love to show some kind of accomplishment. Especially since I have learned I can cry and multi task too. One thing about me, if someone thought or said I couldn't do something, I would prove them wrong. Except for heighths. (phobia I don't plan on working on). Silly to think I am excited about a tool! ha ha, Hugs to all, Michele

I had that problem, bad. I bought this spray stuff you put on end of water hose. Brush killer. Wow, did it ever work good. Especially in this heat. Then after it died, I went in with the toys and cut it all down. Cleaned it all out, bought a electric chain saw, got a lot of thicker stuff out. Then sprayed the stuff that keeps it out for a year. Usually only lasts 9 months though. Then come Spring next year, it ill be workable. Goof job!!!!... Sandee

Way to go Michele!! I also broke down a purchased a decent
machine! I got a self propelled mower!! I figured since Bob was gone, no one else was going to maintain the lawn. I needed a decent machine that would start every time!! So I bought a big Toro mulcher works great!!! We must carry on!!!

Kray... I bought one of those too, the self propelled thingy quit. So back on the old john deere...that is all apart...

You ladies are awesome!
I squirted some WD40 in the gate locks and made them work better. I was quite proud of myself--but that's the extent of my fix-it skills.
Have FUN with your new toys!!! It's going to look great when you're done, and you can enjoy a well-earned sense of accomplishment.

Round of kudos to all the widows that are learning skills and inner strength whilst moving on into unknown territory!! I commend all of you!! Yes, I have done (had to do similar). Isn't a great feeling to simply know "you can"!!?? Yes, we can, and yes we will. I'm proud of all of us and our accomplishments along the way!! We got this, we can do this!! xo, D

P.S. Enjoy your new toy Michele. It's hot as hades here in SC . . yes, 100 in the shade these days. Quite miserable weather. At least you have something to look forward to when the weather allows. :)

I'm with you Michele, I hate asking for help. I just finished cutting my grass with a boot on it. I'm trying to heal an achellies. I hate the weed eater, always seems to quit on me and tangle. Good for you, to do it on your own. I have tried the weed killer too on my walkway. My neighbor suggested I put black plastic over my garden in front, to kill all the weeds, instead of weed eating. I'm not too sure of that one.

Good luck with your new toy. I wait till dusk, to do any yard work.

Ladies, we Rock! Going to try to be up in the morning and play with my new toy! I want to cut it all down and then put some kind of vegatation killer on it and replant grass next year. (son in law knows what I need). I just need to concentrate on one task at a time otherwise the totality of how much needs done overwhelmes me and then I get depressed and do nothing. I know everything didn't get this way over night, and I won't be done in a day. But, if I can address a little at a time, and then treat myself for a job well done, I CAN do it. Everyone give themselves a pat on their back. I keep thinking I am getting stronger every day. This morning trimmed some bushes and did a pretty good job. Still have to finish up, just was too hot to do it all.

Go Michele!!! I too have mastered some yard skills. My husband was the pro, he wouldn't let me do any of it. I cut the grass once, he didn't like the way I done it (I just cut it in a square) he ask me to never do it again. He always striped it. Now I cut it however I feel. I've trimmed shrubs, cut tree limbs, cut down all kind of stuff that was probably flowers. But who cares no-one sees it but me and the dog lol. We can do it. Who knew?

Dog gone it...I was just enjoying finishing the darn garage and in the back of my head I know I need to take a look at some of my yard work...I have a lot of dead bushes in the front of the house a monster bush that needs trimming and is most likely the killer of the other bushes..and something coming out of the side of the house that if its a weed it is now the size of a little tree and was thinking of having a landscaper come out...then I was thinking I should try it myself...I cant really kill a dead bush can I.. and if that weed thing is really a tree it still needs to go...whats the worse that can happen...I end up calling a landscaper..lol Im gonna give it a go ...you guys really make my day!!

It is VERY helpful to relieve the physical and emotional stress for me too. I love working outside and getting things done. Enjoy your new toy!
