Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
My Mother had brain surgery after a brain anyeursim and unfortunately was dependent upon a ventilator. We had no idea what she could remember so the nurses urged me to bring photos of her family. Each patient had their own little board where they could be hung up. Each time I visited, I took them down and we would look at them and she did know most of them. This gesture doesn't cost much--can be placed in a get well card and give a huge boost to the patient.
Most people today are just so wound up in their own lives that they fail to understand the value of some kind of contact to those in a hospital or nursing facility. That expression "you reap what you sow" is befitting--they teach their children how to treat grandma. Guess how the kids will treat them some day?
I even just sent a card w/photos of my new bathrm floor. I think the old ways of letters esp. to the older generation mean alot. I know I like it when I get them.
I think the younger generation if not taught do not know how precious they are. I am proud of my kids - they grew up very close to my Grandma that I went to see alot when they were younger, & we befriended an elderly neighbor for many yrs.
I do blame my husband for the attitudes of his children, they were privileged, & given alot. They were never close to any relatives growing up just their Mom and Dad. My husband said his EX did not like being around people so they never went out to friends or family. Which is why I think his Aunt & I are suspicous of their motives now, but I prayed they realized that relationships are worth more than stuff.
