Today my dear husband went home to be with the Lord. It's Heaven's gain, but I miss him so much. We'd been together for 19 years, knew each other for thirty. He's my best friend. Now, I'm in pain I couldn't imagine. I miss him at every turn. I've accepted his going home; its what we all want, but my heart breaks. I've lost half of who I am. Now I must go on.

Two weeks ago, my husband left for work. Nothing unusual, a tiny headache, that's all. I remember feeling a sense that we would not be together for much longer. I felt death walking with him. On this day, he went to work and called me. He was sick, too tired to drive. I told him to go to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. I met him there less than an hour later. In less than hour he would lie unconscious on the floor-- an aneurysm.

He died two weeks later on 3/31/10.

My pain is without end.

This first week you will be so busy making arrangements, etc. It seems as though everything sets in after that. The pain will be very heavy & probably more than you have never known. I have dealt with death before, but not of a spouse. I never could have believed it would be this hard. Hopefully you have family and good friends that will be there with you to help you through this right now. Deal with the pain however you have to - scream, cry, etc. There are no rules when it comes to grieving. Just don't keep it in. I am so sorry you had to go through this & had very little warning. That is so strange that you felt death walking with him - many people have premonitions (Sp) or just internal feelings within themselves. No matter what, I don't think we can ever fully prepare ourselves for their actual death. May God be with you & comfort you at this time of sorrow. Cheri

Dear truhal - you have been blessed to have come to the best place for those who have lost the most precious person in the world. I feel so sorry for you as there is nothing more heartbreaking, difficult and wrenching for us to endure than such a loss. You are also blessed as you know where he has gone, and to be assured that through the sacrifice of One, your dear husband my beautiful wife and countless others are in that better place, at peace, without illness, sadness, pain and strife. You will find great comfort here, many friends and wise counsel to guide you. May you find comfort and rest under the eternal wings. Love John

I pray you feel God's soothing presence, as you cry in His arms and His peace and strength to get through the next few days, then the time that follows. This is a great place to come to for that time.

I am so very sorry for your loss and your pain. I wish there were a magic wand to take away all that rawness, but know that you are surrounded by so many who have walked in your shoes.

I am so sorry for your loss. You are starting the most difficult journey of your life and we are here with you every painful step of the way. It is far to early to offer encouragement but know that grief will have it's day and it takes as long as it takes but it will get better. Like others have said, there are no shortcuts. Feel it all and let it all out or you will just postpone the healing. Hold on tight! We've all been there and we're not going away.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. You'll probably get through these early days on autopilot doing what you have to do, but there is definitely pain in losing somebody so dear to you who was such a part of your life for all these years.

I hope that you have some comfort in the fact that you met him at the emergency room and were with him before he lost consciousness.

I know you consider this Heaven's gain and I am sure it is, but the loss you will feel for some time is overwhelming. I offer you my deepest sympathy. Five months ago I unexpectedly found myself on this journey. It has tested everything that I am. This site has been a God send, I hope you find the comfort and support here as blessed as I have.
