I am fortunate to be computer savvy, and so lucky to have DS for support. I have a friend, 76, widowed 2 1/2 months ago after helping her husband through a long and painful cancer death, who is in desperate need of a support group. She is not computer literate and does not own a computer. I speak with her often to try to help her as much as I can (I'm 14 months out myself), but want to help her find ways to help herself, which she says she wants. She is entirely alone, no children, no family at all, so I worry. I went online, and typed in her location, and found support groups for everything BUT her specific need: widow/widowers support group. Does anyone know how I can locate this? And are there widow/widower support groups that are not affiliated with churches/synagogues/hospitals i.e. entirely independent? Like an AA for widows/widowers? Help! Thanks so much for your advice.

Hospice runs bereavement support groups, and you do not have to have used Hospice to use the Bereavement Group....I know this is not exact but it is a widely available service.

Also, at our local library there are computers for public use AND tech help...if she has this available to her, I think the tech help could assist her to do just DS .......

There is an earlier (few days/week ago?) thread on here where someone has set up such a group I think in the Phoenix area and offered materials for others who wanted to set up such a group...perhaps a search of past threads might yield that information.....

You don't really have to be that computer savvy to get on here. A very basic computer, little more than a browser can be had for around 300 bucks nowadays. She could just keep the browser up, on this site. You can show her the basics of getting on here. Seems like the best solution, and probably cheaper than an ongoing support group, I would think so anyway.

Check your local funeral homes. They usually have a listing of grief support groups. A quick call to them night help.
