Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I lost my wife of 40 years 15 months ago to breast cancer. I still have days that I have crying spurts, I think we all have that. I'm not sure it will ever be any different. I think this is the new normal for me. The biggest advice I can give is to let it happen. If you hold it in it will eat you up. Also talk to your kids. They may need to see you experience your grief so they know it's ok to experience theirs.
Also I will say my finding this site was God sent. The people here have varying degrees of loss, and they are all kind, helpful and understanding people. You will find strength in talking to them.
Take care and God Bless

Take care and be blessed.
I'm really dreading Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, doing the family thing at my mom's house. I just wish I could be alone till after the Jan. 1st. But then the 1 year anniversary is Feb 12, that falls in the middle of the week. I think I'll take a few days off and just hide.
Hope I can hold it together next week, I know the loss is hard on everyone in the family but mine is different.

It looks like our time frames are pretty similar, and I know for me, it has been a season of vacillating moods. One minute I'm feeling just fine, and then suddenly some tiny thing will trigger a meltdown. Especially when I am trying not to act sad. (Thank God for bathrooms, where I can go, close the door, and have a sob fest by myself) Or when I allow myself to show the sadness, and feel like I bring everyone else down. It's a tough one, that is for sure.
But 2014 is almost here. You'll get there. And hopefully, it will bring you new options, and a life that has a sense of purpose once again....

But it's better than last week when I was at my own house, with a cold (plus underlying health conditions), and trying to go to work. That was really lonely and sad, especially as I listened to co-workers talk about their spouses and plans for the holidays.
I, too, miss my husband so much. We were married for almost 50 years, and I can remember so many things about Christmases past. It's really hard. I guess all we can do is "fake it until we make it" -- though I'm not sure I ever will -- make it, that is.
Holiday hopes to all,
