Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I was prescribed sleeping pills, but never had the prescription filled because I didn't trust myself with them. Several friends tried to talk me into getting a gun, too, and besides not wanting to take someone else's life, I didn't trust myself with one. I was afraid I would falter and give in.
I can tell you this, if I had ended it, or even if I had simply given up, I WOULD HAVE MISSED SO MUCH. The things I have seen and done since then, the wonder and beauty, the laughter and joy - yeah, sounds impossible, but I found it again. I try not to waste my days - I have a different sense of the importance of my time left I guess.
It isn't a walk in the park to feel better. Sometimes it takes therapy, sometimes it takes medication, sometimes you have to revamp your thinking. It takes time and effort to rebuild after a disaster.
One book that helped me turn the corner on my grief was "Seven Choices - Finding Daylight After Loss Shatters Your World" by Elizabeth Harper Neeld. It was like a gentle guide that helped me progress through my grief, and I had several "aha!" moments reading it. Check your public library for it, or you can get it on Amazon. I read several books on grief, and that was the best one I came across. Maybe it would help you.
You are stronger than you know. And life can be good again. Will it be different? Yes, that's unavoidable, but it can be good again.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
Until then...
I battle on, I guess.
