Thankfully, your son has you to give him a lot of encouragement he will need growing up. He sounds like such a dear boy, and you did the best job possible while your heart was and is still breaking. Keep the faith that you and he will get through these tough times together. I'm sure that your husband would be very proud of you; his spirit was right there with you and your son. It's not easy for you, but you sound like a strong woman of faith. Count your blessings each day, and your wonderful son is the greatest blessing for you! Wishing you better days ahead...

From the mouths of children come very wise words. Oh to have that for us would be wonderful, wouldn't it? Appreciate his loving concern for you, you must have been great parents to have such a child. Remember all he learned was from his mom and dad. I know it is hard to be missing his dad for you both, but I think you are doing a great job. It's okay for him to know that missing dad is ok. It is hard to be left to deal with all the ups and downs of life without your partner's help. I make a lousy mom for sure. But at the very least I know I am better than nothing. It is good your son has you still. It doesn't lessen the loss of his dad but nobody would be so much worse.

First of all, Congratulations to Matthew on a wonderful accomplishment.
I understand all of your words that you have written. It is NOT fair, and unfortunately life is not fair. You have been wonderful parents to this precious boy of yours. His spirit is tender and you have guided him wonderfully. Your husband is a part of both of you. I am so sorry that your husband died and you both have to walk through this.

Lauri, Congratulations to Matthew on being a Boy Scout!! He sounds like such a wonderful son and how thoughtful of him to say, "it's ok Mom" and reply to your missing Daddy, "me too, but we will be with him again in our next life". he is wise beyond his years and trying so hard to comfort you. So glad that you have each other and you guys are doing great, under the circumstances. Brian is smiling with pride for you both and will be guiding you each day.......hugs

I know exactly how hard these special moments are. What a beautiful little boy you have. It's strange but sometimes I feel like I get the most comfort from my youngest son (he's 12). He's not afraid to talk about his dad and say exactly how he's feeling and he cuddles and kisses me constantly. My teenagers don't want to talk about their dad or express any feelings.

You are doing a great job with Matthew. We never imagined that we'd be raising our kids alone, this is hard.

Congratulations to Matthew for his wonderful accomplishment. I am sure Brian was with you in spirit and beaming down at both of you. I can understand the extreme sadness, though - it is so hard being without our spouses every day - and even more so for important events. Congratulations to you and Brian, too, for raising such a compassionate, wise young man. I am sure you will continue to do so, with Brian's loving spirit guiding you in the years ahead. First, a BIG CONGRATS on the crossover to full on Boy Scout! It IS a VERY BIG DEAL!!! And I am so glad that YOU were there smiling, and being SO PROUD of the YOUNG MAN that you and Brian raised so lovingly.

You have raised a FINE YOUNG MAN who is intuitive, compassionate, loving, and as was said WISE beyond his years. What a TRUE gift you are to each other, and what a testament to TWO loving parents who shaped this young MAN to be all of these things.

You are RIGHT it is NOT FAIR what life hands us without our want. And every new milestone that these wonderful children that are left to us reach, there is always a sadness and pain to go along with the PRIDE we have in them and the accomplishments they make.

I truly believe that when we see these accomplishments with our eyes and feel them in our hearts, We realize that our husbands/wives ARE with us. They are watching over us and and TRHOUGH us at the magnificent people we have created.

And my dear your son in knowing you are missing Brian and that you can TELL him that, he understands and has a response like that back to you/ what a wonderful MAN you are raising and Brian? Could not be ANY PROUDER OF THE BOTH OF YOU!

How wonderful that Matthew has achieved this goal! And you are such a good mom. I think little ones don't understand the tremendous impact the death of a parent/spouse can make. The parent is thinking about all the milestones ahead, without the one who died: senior prom, graduation, wedding, birth of first grandchild, etc. We adults are the ones who know what will come in the future, where the children mostly just think about today.

My husband was the first Eagle Scout ever in his hometown. I have the picture of him and his mom at the ceremony receiving his awards. That must have been about 1957. I have his certificate and the pin he got. I am so proud of this, as you will of Matthew's accomplishments as he grows. Anyway, congratulations to both of you! I feel that his dad knows and sees his joys.
